Default Can you add a supercharger to a 996C4S?

I am looking at a turbo 996 cab, but they are all around $120,000. I especially like the body of the C4S and I was wondering if it is possible to add a supercharger to the C4S. I have seen plenty of posts of members with supercharged C2s but not the C4S and was wondering why. Thanks in advance for your input.

Yes. I have supercharged my 2004 C4S. Some wondered why I ddin't buy a Turbo instead. Here's why. I bought the 4S for $90k vs $120k for the Turbo. That's a $30k delta. I spent $23K upgrading brakes (GT2), suspension (PSS9) and power and now have car that outperforms a Turbo in ALL respects. Better brakes, WAY better suspension and MORE power. Call me crazy if you want but I can smoke a Turbo and I paid less money and have better performing car.

I can tell you the power is amazing. I am putting down 411 at the wheels which translates to nearly 500 at the crank. Power is smooth and linear with no boost kick. 0-60 in 4.4.

I am not concerned about resale value and all the naysayer reliability claims are unjust. I just want to enjoy my car for years to come and could give a crap about a Turbo badge.

Now, if only there was a"C" that flattered the "S", for a Carerra C4SC!!!

Out of curiousity, are the superchargers sold as "kits"....are there several options to accomplish this? Are they all priced differently?

There are two primary vendors for 996 Superchargers. TPC and Evolution Motorsports. IMO, the Evo kit is the most complete kit available. It provides a complete system with new fuel injectors, intercooler, water pump, centrifugal blower and a tested GIAC program.

While any competent mechanic could install the kit, I recommend an Authorized Evo delaer. Cost is about $12500 installed.

Ruf also has a very slick looking SC, but it is $20K.

Thanks for the info. I feel better knowing that if I get the C4S and feel like I need more power that a supercharger is available and reliable.

I had Imagine Auto in the kansas City area install an Evolution supercharger in my 1999 996 C-4. Dyno showed 427HP.Also added Cross coil over suspension,B&H short shifter, Fab Speed exhaust, Sachs clutch, Sparco harness, Pagid blue pads and rotors, turbo look front and Getty Gembella rear aero.Unreal performance, no turbo lag, and better performance than a twin turbo at a fraction of the cost. Also very reliable.

Get a used turbo like Robyn. She used to have an SC, but she loves the Turbo! It wasn't near $120k. Used Turbo's can be had for great prices now and most of them have barely even been driven.

Wow, my post has been resuscitated.

The $120,000 figure I found was for 996TT Cabs that I was able to find on ebay, cars.com, etc. There were a few for around $110,000.

Since I will probably keep my '02 C4 cab for 3-4 years, I think I will look at a used 997TT Cab when I am ready for more HP. This will help me decide between adding the SC vs. getting a used TT.

Robyn's new ride is sweeeeet! I have never ridden in a TT so I will hopefully find someone nearby through PCA who is willing to take me for a spin.

I'll also be at the Petit LeMans in Atlanta and hopefully someone in the Porshce Car Corral will have a TT.

Thanks again for the advice!

Not to be a nitpicker but why do people use the word "delta" when they mean "more money" or even "incremental cost"????

Delta Definition:Measure of the relationship between an option price and the underlying futures contract or stock price.

More expensive automobiles do not require fancier terms for description. Porsche+turbo=$$ and Power. Delta is used to describe a relationship that is more complicated than a matrix depicting the two variables of price and horsepower.
Sorry, but somebody has to be the a$$ sometimes.

Delta is defined variously across a wide array of disciplines to mean a difference between two states.

The use in financial engineering that you cite is but one.

In medicine, a delta is any change in variables.
