Default Air filter/MA sensor clip...Help

How do I Get the MAS clip off to remove the air filter housing? I don't see clips as mentioned in the renntech forum air filter change instructions. It says "pull connecting plug off MAS by squeezing the connecter clip". There doesn't appear to be anything to squeeze on the clip. The instructions don't show an illustration.

help..help

Thank you

I've got the renntech instructions, but it doesn't show how I can press the connecter clip. It doesn't look like anything that I can press? Thanks for this link, but it doesn't elaborate on how to remove the connecting plug. It's a 2003 C4S, I don't know if that makes any difference.

It says "unplug" but mine won't budge. Now it's a pride thing. What am I doing wrong here?

DM, you need a security torx key to remove it.

Thanks Dell. Where is the torx bolt? I didn't see any thing on the clip, even on the instructions at Renntech

Has anyone on the board changed the air filter on their 996?

There are 2 and you have follow the MAF down to where it connects to the Air housing. You will see one on either side of the housing that the MAF attaches to. The security torx looks like an allen wrench (torx key) that instead of being solid has a small amount bored out of the bottom with a pin in it. I have attached a pic of what you are looking for.

I don't know what a MAS is but if you are trying to remove the MAF, Here is the link which explains it quite well:

Yes, mass air flow sensor. I don't want to remove it. The instructions for changing the air filter say to remove the connecting plug to the sensor, but I can;t seem to figure out how to do it. Renntech instructions say to press the spring clip and pull it off the maf. Has anyone on the board actually changed their own air filter on a 996? If so, how did you pull the connecting plug off by squeezing the connecter clip?

Are the instructions corrct?

Need to remove the 2 security torx screws first. then the MAF can be set aside while you remove the air filter cover. I tried to "unclip" the MAF the first time I changed the air filter and almost broke it.

Thanks Dell, that's what I'll try. This should be addressed in the renntech instructions. I too, think it would break if I tried to unclip it. I thought it was telling in the instructions that they completely glossed over how to do that specific proceedure.

I hope anyone else trying this, will stop short of damaging their clip.

Again, thanks Dell. By the way, it's 111 degrees, heat index, here in Nashville. I could have stayed in Vegas!

111? OUCH!!!!!!! This past week sucks hard. Got over 120 in places. I stayed indoors as you can imagine.

As for your MAF, I broke part of mine when I tried to "unclip" it but lucky for me the dealer replaced it under warranty a few months back when it threw a code. Oops!

I got the clip off! Kept working with it and squeezing...finally. I can't believe I almost went to a dealer to replace an air filter.

Thanks everyone for your help.
