Question Spray on Clear Bra

Does anyone have any experience with this product: Armorcoat ?

It looks very interesting in that it could be as good as the film protectors without all of the downsides.

Opinions?

Sounds interesting from the potential perspective. But somethings in their description just don't jive. Namely they claim that their product, once applied and dry, will have a thickness of 4 to 5 times more than traditional clear bra films (???), and then they make the following claim -"ArmorCoat is virtually invisible to the eye and the 6 to 10 dry mil application provides significantly higher film thickness and far greater resilience than traditional OEM and auto body repair clears."- My biggest concern here is in how can they guarantee consistency of thickness in the applied material.

Comparing that to the film currently installed in my car (by Premier Mobile), using the Venture Shield material (http://www.venturetape.com/final/aut...ts.asp?id=610), with a material thickness of 12 mil + 2.5 mil for the adhesive for a total of ~14 mil. I'd rather stick to my current clear bra. I'm not sure anything thiner than this will be effective.

But the prospect of this application on special applications which otherwise will go unpretected is quite promising.

Like everything else, the product needs to evolve. If this is so good, I'd imagine cars will come with it as an option from the factory in a few years.

I tried to see how I can find an installer but can't. I'd like to see a car in person. If it works as good as a clear bra, I'd cover the entire car even if it's a few thousand more. Can you imagine your car completely protected against scratches, chips? That would be totally remarkable!

The FAQ section clarifies that it cannot be removed. That kills it in my book. If I want to alter my paintjob permanently, I will just wait until it is sufficiently dinged and then respray.

Todd makes a great point. With a traditional clear bra you can remove without any damage to the paint and do body repairs paint work, etc.

By the way, where's Jim. I know he loves this stuff!

It hurts your nipples when you peel it off!

No experience with the product.

Sounds like it would be impossible to control orange peal on that type of thickness...

The guys at the 964 board swear by Liquid Latex (now that's kinky) for trackdays and it's actually applied by using a small roller and can be purchased at your nearest sex toyshop. I'm not kidding!

There are mixed results w/ this type of application. Had a customer w/ an aftermarket bumper for his E55 do this. The coating got scraped up at the parking lot and tried to get it fixed, but couldn't since it's a permanent application. If memory serves me correctly, he mentioned the bumper costed him about $7k to replace.

I have a friend with a 360 who tried the spray on coating. From his experience, he said it worked fine at first. He had it sprayed on the bumper and part of the hood. He said the line is more pronounced than the clear bra, but that it worked just fine. The only problem is that the coating was hit with some rocks at really high speeds which caused some scratch marks. Because the coating is permanent, the shop recommended spraying another coat on to cover up the marks. He essentially refused to do it because he didn't like the idea of making the coating even thicker than it already is. I haven't talked to him for a while, so I should get an update with what he thinks about it now.

If the coating is so thick why not just wet sand it?
