Default 2001 996 CD Changer Retrofit?

How difficult is it to retrofit a CD Changer in a 2001 996 and how costly is it? Are the cars pre-wired for the changer from the factory? That would certainly help things......

Why bother? Just hook up an Ipod.

Tom, I see your logic about the IPOD. I may go that route but would rather do the conventional Changer if its not too much of a hassle. What is involved in attaching an IPOD to the stock radio?

It's VERY simple. If you have a CDR 220, Becker of N.A. (888) 423-3537 x1209 sells a Phone mute/Aux audio-in/Tel audio-in/Removal keys in one kit (BNA-116.276 ($16.40), and Telephone power cable (5001.524-276 ($5.00). I would also recommend getting a Ground Loop Isolator from Radio Shack (#270-054 about $17). I know it can seem overwhelming, but it's really very simple.

PM me with any questions

OK, Tom I'll bite. I have tried the Ice>Link on my 99's Becker CD220 and could never get that piece of crap to sync up. Frankly those folks at Ice>Link were completely unhelpful and after weeks of runaround I finally got a refund.
So your post has me intrigued. The Becker Phone mute/Aux audio-in/Tel audio-in/Removal keys in one kit (BNA-116.276 ($16.40), and Telephone power cable (5001.524-276 ($5.00) really does the trick? How does the iPod sound overall through it?
Any feedback including the Ground Loop Isolator from Radio Shack is greatly appreciated.

Agreed! I may PM you or check back to this thread after I get my car in about 6 months to figure out how to do this. Trying to remember life before the iPod is difficult.

Buzz,
The sound is great. It is direct wired in. I have a 60 gig Ipod photo(yeah, overkill I know) and I LOVE it. The Ground Loop Isolator loses about 95% (unscientific estimate) of the high pitch whine. The instructions provided with the cable is pretty simple. I really should do a write up with pictures.

The irony for me was that I paid $300 for my ipod. After I pulled the CD changer I sold it on ebay for $325. Go figure. Once you wire in your ipod (or other mp3 player) there is no going back to "just 6 disks".

Default Pics please

Tom, I appreciate your feedback. The install sounds pretty simple, but if you've the chance, maybe a couple of pics? PM me directly if you wish. Thanks.
