did the 99s come with an option of the 18inch turbo twists? If so, were they the same 18inch turbo twist wheel that was an option on the 993?

 

I had a '99 996 C2Cab with optional 18" turbo look wheels straight from the factory.

 

My 2001 has the wheels and the part numbers are 993 ones. So the answer is yes.

 

I do not believe that the 18" wheels were available on 993. I had 17" turbo twists on my 993. They are the same as the standard wheels on a 996. 993 came with 16" cup wheels standard. See my avatar for stock 18 turbo look wheels.

 

Numbers for all the factory Turbo Look wheels that I could find were all 993.x.x.x numbers and only in 18". There are various widths/offsets and some were options on the 996 and Boxsters. The "Turbo Twists" were only 17" and (also?) came on the 996 and Boxsters. lexpilot's avatar shows the 18" Turbo Look wheels. Do you mean those instead of the Turbo Twist? I think the Turbo Twists were also known as the Boxster Design wheels on Boxsters.

 

Further investigation leads me to believe that my 18" turbo look wheels were available on wide body 993S and 993 4S models as an option. 17 inchers were standard on the 993S. Turbo models were on 18" wheels that had hollow spokes for reduced weight. A hollow spoke wheel weighed 30% less than standard spoke. 7# for an 8J x 18 wheel.

 

They're also known as "Technology" wheels.

On my MY01 they were a $1,190 option and listed as 18" Light Alloy Turbo Look Wheels.

 

I have the option sheet somewhere...

 

They are just terrible heavy!

Yeah, and they are not BBS 3 piece racing wheels.....but they are about 1/3 the cost. Also note, the hollow spoke technology wheels are about 5 Lbs lighter than the solid spoke Turbo-look wheels. You gets what you pay for.
