Pretty simple. If you were to take a cross section of your fender lip you would see it looks like an "L". Run your fingers along the inside of the lip and you will feel it. This is done to make the fenders stonger. Rolling the fender is nothing more than pushing the bottom part of the L up against the top. Bending the part of the lip that extends towards the tire up so that it lays flat against the inside of the fender well. This gives you more room for tires. The downside is a significantly weaker fender.

You can do this a number of ways. Someone (BK?) makes a tool but most use a bar or a bat and a hammer. You jack the car up, stick the bar or bat between the fender and the tire and slowly let it down. You can then roll the bar along the tire bending up the fender lip as you go.

WARNING - it is very easy to crack your paint or mess up your fender. Don't do this unless you know what you are doing or are willing to risk a trip to the body shop.

Never did it on a p-car. There is a lip on the fender facing the wheel. On the spec RX-7's we'd just fold them into the inside of the fender with a baseball bat...

It is a modification where the fenders are mechanically flared to accomodate a wider tire track. They have a tool you can rent, or old school is rolling a bat inside the fender well until the desired flare is attained. Suggest having it professionally done if it sounds like something you want to do.

I second or third the "have a pro do it". If you are looking for room underneath, I am running 285's, a 15mm spacer, -2.5 deg camber, my car is 24.75" and I have no rub issues, plenty of room. The tool they use monts to the hub with a urethane roller to do the rolling. Search online for a pic. They are pricey.

thanks for the info....i have 285 30 18 on the car now...if i go to 19...can i still keep the same profile 285-30-19? the new 997 comes like this.. will there be a rubbing issue?..i dont want less rubber on the road as the roads here in montreal are crazy bumpy....i have a cayenne S with eibach springs and 20's and it is really bumpy....thanks in advance

Your tires would be an inch bigger in diameter. If you want the same diameter you'd have to go to a 245 30 19, which will be narrower. You would have less sidewall between your wheel and your nasty montreal bumps.

yeah slap on those 19s

But make sure a professional does your rolling. I would never consider it as a DIY project. Especially on your 996. Good luck and let us know how it goes

Didn't say you can't do it.... Your speedo will be wrong and you may have clearance problems. The 997 is designed for it from the ground up.

I'm sure you can make it work well enough for the street.

don't think the suspension response will be optimal but if you're not tracking you are probably OK
