Default Backfire!

Does anyone know how to fix a backfire problem which happens on deceleration?

good point! LOL! However, you will still have to stop before a Stop Sign or a red light.

Check your intake and exhaust plumbing for leaks.

Are you using the engine for braking? Are you blipping the throttle to match revs prior to letting out the clutch? This can cause a backfire if you spin the engine to high rpm's with little or no throttle. A leak as 99 911 said could also be the culprit.

Mechanic found an exhaust leak and fixed it. But there is still a little bit of popping. I've found some articles on the web which said that popping on deceleration could be caused by a faulty air injection diverter valve. What do you think? Is there an air injection diverter valve in the 996?

I have no leaks in the exhaust system in my car but my PSE pops sometimes during hard deceleration.

It seems that you guys are big fans of the popping sound. What I am worried about is that it may be harmful to the exhaust or engine.

I blip the thottle to match revs but never enough to cause a backfire...how or why would an over rev cause a backfire...just curious?
