2000 996 : The World of Extended Warranty

First post, so hello to everyone. I just bought a 2000 996 cab, 10450 miles, looks and drives brand new. Lapis Blue and Savannah Beige, having sold my S2000. (for later discussion)
Having read some of your (horror) posts, I decided to check out the world of extended warranty. I have ( so far ) spoken with three insurers, as Porsche dealer will not provide. The recommendations came from my Insurance Agent.
I firstly spoke with " Warranty Direct " who won't insure in Florida ! (Too complex, they said) I next spoke with " 1Auto Source Warrant" who will not insure ANY 2000 996 ! Finally, I spoke with "Certified Car Care" who is willing to provide 3 years "Platinum Coverage" for $4750.00. Each of these companies can be found online.
Should I buy ? Anyone have suggestions or recommendations for other companies (who pay! ) Much thanks.

Welcome to the funhouse!
We've kicked this around a lot. $4750 is a lot of scratch. An RMS repair is around $800...Most of what you'll spend your money on is likely to be wear and tear, and not covered.
Assume you did not buy from a dealer...otherwise you'd have Porsche warranty offered.
You need to post pix of your ride.

I've found that many of these indi providers will have problems paying up and can make owning the car a living hell.... I would highly recommend speaking to someone at your dealership who can sell you a contract, they usually can recommend those who will pay on the spot since they're used-to dealing with them on a daily basis..... Good Luck and welcome!

I got the two year/24k warranty from the dealer (Porsche of Huntington,NY) when I bought my 99 Cab. I just looked at the list of items covered, it is alot shorter than the list of what isn't covered! Such is life!

2 yr Porsche certification is about $2500 w zero deductible. $4.5k for 3 yrs is crazy. Unless your ride needs a new engine or tranny, you'll probly take a loss.
RMS is about $800 so figure you get one each year you are still ahead.
I'd stach the dough and let it grow.

I insured a 1999 C2 Cab in South Florida with Royal Administration (Lydon Insurance Co.) for 2 years at $2,200 in 2004. They've covered everything (Water pump fail, coolant expansion tank, cam cover leak, and most recently a new engine for ring failure).
They've paid promptly but only pay labor to $86 per hour. I got their insurance when I bought the car from a sportscar dealership in Miami (right around the corner from The Collection(porsche dealer) off US1)...It was a one owner car, completely serviced by the collection and it still made sense to me at $2,200 for 2 years.
After getting a new engine, I would say it has paid for itself handsomely...

My factory warranty expired yesterday. I just bought a 4 year 48k mile (Gold Plus) warranty from my local dealer for $2,800. It's through JM&A Group/Fidelity out of Deerfield Beach, FL., apparently this is the company that Porsche, Audi, and VW farm out their factory warranty's to.

I have had two extended warranties in my life and both paid off....I did not pay close to THAT much though! What I have found is that the key is that you can provide service receipts (even if you did it yourself) for all maintenance at the recommended intervals. On both cars, once I provided that, all I had to pay was a $50 deductable and tax on parts. One time a turbo was replaced and the other car lost its tranny with about 1k left on the warranty! Both were fully covered without grief (after providing service records, which again, was receipts and a logbook of what and when I did it).
My GT3 came with an aftermarket 2/100K warranty. I hope to God that I don't have to test it though. lol. The amount you got quoted seems really high to me. Like the others said, I would probably just bank that money and let it work for me. But each must make his own decision I guess. Good luck.

I've used this plan twice. I take my car to Tyson's Porsche and they honor the terms. I think I have a $100 deductible 48K Gold Plus. Highly recommended. For a bit less than $2k I have peace of mind should something really break...
