$50 per wheel for mounting?
Sorry, seems like lots of venting going on and I need to equalize some pressure
Is it just me or is $50/wheel a BIT much to mount and balance a stock 18" Carrera wheel? At least they didn't nick the wheel so that's saying something.

What else could there be? They are a Tirerack recommended installed and I had the tires shipped directly to them. Unless they're charging me extra for that but it didn't say anything on the invoice. In fact, I asked them if they could get PS2's for me and the guy said to stick with TR because they are much cheaper. argh. stock wheels - nothing fancy.

Wow that's rather high. I paid $67 tax included to mount 4 new tires I bought from Tirerack onto my wife's SUV and that was also including them taking off the 4 original tires and disposing of the front 2 of them for me. I think you got taken advantage off my friend. Even Mr Tire shop and NTBW here quotes $25/wheel at the most.
Sorry for you pain.

I used a TireRack 5-star recommended installer specializing in P-car/F-Car/Mercedes and wound up paying $35 each without any dismounting/tire disposal fees/not even on the car since everything was new. Since the chimpanzees chipped a wheel (which I didn't find out until afterwards), I will not use them again and would pay more. Next time, I will use some place that basically ONLY does exotic/race wheel setups. A lot also depends on the wheels and how hard your tires are to mount. (Mine elicited a lot of 4 letter words and took 1-1/2 hrs.) I also paid extra for factory Porsche wheel weights which are better than the cheap stick-on strip weights that TireRack and other places use. Your Carerra wheels and PS2s are not that difficult to do, so I think you paid a premium, but at least they didn't chip your wheels. Feel better?

I had great luck at a Discount Tire here in Charlotte. I was impressed with how professional they were, and it only took 2 days to get the Continental ContiSportContact 2. Plus the road force balancing worked like magic. Was far cheaper than $50/wheel.

They must have a special price for Porsches. Most dealers will charge between $10 to $15 a wheel for mounting and balancing. A good mechanic can balance and mount a wheel in about five minutes. So $200 for no more than a half hour job sounds excessive to me. BTW most dealers will lower their service price if you complain. I just had the clutch replaced on my 993 and after complaining to the Service Manager, he agreed to lower the price by almost $300.

I got wacked like that once. I took 4 tire rack tires to the shop that had worked on my 928 for about 7 years, cost me $200 bucks, and I paid cash. Never again, now I go to a local tire store that has a very high end tire machine and pride in his work. He sold me 6 tires at "tire rack" prices and mounted and balanced them for free. 'Course things just cost less in the mountains......

Mount and balance 4 new tires on new rims; take old set off car; mount new set on car; Local dealer quote (CT): $144 plus tax; Independant quote: $150 plus tax. I went with the independant because that's where I'll get my service done when the car comes off warranty next summer.

I recently discovered Costco as a good source for tires, esp P zeros. They have them for a way cheaper price than tr, and they mount and balance them. My friend got tires for his cab there, I may try it next time.
