I'd check for the machine that does not touch the rims.

I noticed that once a serviceman knows you own a Porsche be prepared to pay premium. Call them back anonymously and ask them to quote you for a Toyota and see what the difference is.

For a no touch install, the dealer is in excess of $200. Theyve got a machine that can deal with 20' for the Cayenne. Ive had Discount Tire wreck my 18" before with their usual technique. After that repair at $90 a wheel, the dealer is reasonable. You get what you pay for.

Look for specialty wheel shops. There's a little shop in Portland called Skip's Wheel Werks. They dealers send their wheel repairs to them. No sign outside or anything. They have all the right machines and charge about $20. I had a wheel on my Miata ruined by Discount Tire and the butcher machine.

I recently paid almost $200 to have four new tires put on a BMW at a "recommended" Tire Rack installer. This was far more than the price Tire Rack guestimated that their associated installer would charge.

Most of the time I buy at Discount Tire, and you don't have the problem of the installer ripping you on price. I learned my lesson (sad to say that was the SECOND time I'd learned that lesson!).

Screw tire shops, Costco is the way to go. Free road hazard and all labor included in price.

My main concern with having tires mounted and balanced is having it done without the wheel lips scratched, have had some bad experiences in the past, $50 per does sound high to me, dealership prices I guess.

Default $70

I was given a price of 70.00 to mount and balance -- not including the cost of the weights or valve stem!

That is a lot -- this is in southern NJ

$50 bucks to mount a tire?? Hell, for $50 bucks, I'll mount ANYTHING!!

Recently replaced my rear P-Zeros and bought them at Discount Tire in Concord (just outside of Charlotte). They charged me $10 per tire to mount. They did a good job. No dings or scratches on the rims.

Oh, boy, big NASCAR race in town this weekend. YEP, all the "Bubbas" will be out in force! Can't wait until Monday morning. Yeah, I know, I'll be back at work then, but at least the "Bubbas" will be gone!

You could get it done cheaper, but I doubt anyone would guarantee no scratches for less than that.

Local dealer here is about $150 to mount and balance 4 wheels with OE weights. Throw in the cost of 4 new valve stems ($12 each) and you're looking at $200 for everything. No "extra" disposal fees... which are, of course, factored into the price.

I have heard that places like Discount Tire are a crap shoot. Some have had great experiences whiles others have not.

I went to a local Tire Rack recommended installer and he looked at my 18 and said, "Boy, that sure is low-profile. I think I can do it safely, but I'm not sure."

Oh great.

Cheers

I used Griffin Bros. At these prices, I had planned to try the dealer next. There's a Discount Tire right next door to them that I have used in the past but they seem pretty shady. It'd be worth a drive up to Concord or elsewhere to save a few bucks & still get it done right.
