Default OT: Griots floor covering..anyone used?

I was browsing the gallery and saw JohnD's photos of the garage (Very NICE!) and noticed he was using the Griots floor covering. Anyone used this? How was it to apply? Finish and durability?

If you are talking about the Griot's garage paint, I have it and like it very much. It is easy to apply, it is easy to clean, and it appears to be very durable (I have only had it for about two years). The hardest part is prepping the floor properly for application. I paid someone to come out and clean my garage floor with acid (the previous owner had never even swept it). I recommend it.

TD,

Other then the acid wash, no other floor prep? Is the paint just a roll on? How thick is it when dry? I was going to use the tiles but they are cost prohib.

Also look at "U-Coat it" at ucoatit.com...comes with warranty. I put it on 2 years ago and still looks great

The acid wash took care of everything (I paid someone to do it since it involved muriatic? acid). The paint is just roll on, and it is very easy to complete. I don't know how thick it is when dry, but I don't have any chipping problems and it is easy to clean with water. I like it.

Thanks a lot. Sounds like it will work well. No issues with hot tires pulling it up or similar? I always had heard that the big issue was it peeling under tires.

I have had no issues with the paint pulling up whatsoever. I was told that the prep is the key to everything. Take a shortcut on the prep, expect to have problems later. Prep well, and you should have no problems.

I've used the Griot's paint. It's great. I heavily etched the garage floor and as a result the paint is a little thin on the rough spots. I just recoated it, though, and smoothed it out. I would recommend leveling or filling any rough spots prior to initially coating the floor (I think Griot's sells a product for this).

The easiest way to apply the paint is to 1) lightly mist the floor, keep it damp but not wet with standing water on the bare concrete, and 2) pour the paint on the floor and roll it out using a 3/4" nap roller. If you are recoating you do not need to dampen the paint. I would only apply the paint if the temp is above 60 degrees F; otherwise, the paint will be like molasses. Also get their paint stirrer (it's only about $5 and fits on your electric drill). It is critical to mix the paint and epoxy well.

After about 2 years the paint has no issues. I think it is indestructible when properly applied. I don't think it will ever lift.

The Griots paint is an excellent floor covering product.
It is very tough and still looks great after 2 years, with no lifting. Like the others mentioned, proper prep is the key.

For John D II--- Man what a Garage! Do you ever do any work in this thing or is just a comfortable bedroom for the excellent looking 996? I am about to add another garage/workshop to my house and could only dream of making mine look as plush!

Chris,

It's mostly a bedroom for the car since there is not much work to be done on a new car under warranty. However, I often enjoy the space for detailing sessions, wheel swapping, PSS-9 adjustments, etc.

Good luck with your new garage project...a little sheetrock and Griots garage floor paint go a long way toward making that dream a reality.

Oh yea, there was the time RUF came over to adjust the suspension.
