How to remove oil overfill from 996
equipment:
2 bottle cote rotie, any vintage
1/4 or 3/8 I.D. plastic hose
shop vac with 1 1/4 hose
Directions:
1. drink one bottle of the wine. When reasonably sober, insert the tube into the dipstick tube
2. turn shop vac on
3. insert other end of tube into empty wine bottle (this won't work with a plastic bottle)
4. With thumb and forefinger, make a seal around bottle opening and apply shop vac to top of thumb/forefinger.
5. watch oil level in bottle.
6. remove, wipe everything off, wash hands, drink other bottle

Does it work better with white wine or red?
It was a 2000 Guigal Brune et Blonde Côte Rotie (red, of course). YMMV
The role of the second bottle is to celebrate success and dispel the oil smell in the nostrils.
BTW a plastic bottle won't work because the reduced pressure collapses the bottle.
