Default Oil Change/Disposal

I was thinking of changing my oil at 3k miles to get rid of any metal residue from break-in. The DIY on renntech looks easy enough. Anyone (maybe Jim) know how one gets rid of waste oil in Oregon? Would it be too much hassle to DIY? Also, what should I expect to pay for the filter, gaskets and removal tool?

I can remember going to an AutoZone where I lived about a year ago and they but-head on the other side of the counter was being such an *** over taking the oil claiming that they have no more room even though they had a huge container out-back where there were other containters on the side waiting for disposal.... I simply said O.K. and they took my containers to the back myself.....

Chalked up for a min-wage bone-head.

OK. I stopped at Sunset and got the parts, but they didn't have the filter wrench from Porsche. What are my alternatives?

You can get one at most auto stores.

Thanks. I knew that. I was wondering if I need a band type, or the type that goes on the end cap, and what size. thanks.

I just finished doing my own 15K service last week. It took me all of 90 minutes even though I haven't worked on a car in 20 years.

I forget the size, but I have plastic ones for each of my cars I think I got at Napa. They are only a couple bucks. A band type will also work as will a bowl of Wheatees and firm grip.

Lee,

When I needed one I just drove up to autozone and asked 'em if I could try a couple of different sizes out. Took 2-3 right out to the parking lot and wiggled under the car. I recommend the end cap type - esp. if you're real **** and are going to torque it to just the right amount.

Question is: Do I buy the Wheatees or the Oil Wrench first? One mod at a time right? -Wrong-

Look at the DYI section for the filter wrench size.

Don't forget the oil filter can be recycled as well. They crush it to get oil out. They also take tranny oil and

Your waste removal company should also have a recycle collection center for used paint, oil etc.

I just grabbed a band type that does 2 1/4 to 3 1/4 inches. Not too **** about oil filter torque, I've done many. I just got a band type that does 2 1/4 to 3 1/4 inches. Went to GI Joe's in LO and grabbed a waste container too and (sorry JimPDX) they do not have Mobil 10-40 or 0-40. Went back to Sunset and had a long discussion about viscosities, since they insisted on 0-40 and my manual says 10-40. I got a copy of a bulletin that says the factory fill is 0-40 since sometime in '03, so I bought 10Q at Sunset. I guess I'm ready to go now..
