Yeah, it's my fault for parking on 171st street in manhattan. It's not that bad a neigborhood... it's the columbia med school campus.
Anyway, someone backed into my car and knocked off the license plate holder. The black plastic that goes into the bumper is broken so I can't seem to re-attach it.
Any ideas?

bumper plugs maybe if front plates aren't required?
If not you will need to buy the pieces. Which piece did you break?
There is a black plastic holder of the plate (about the size of a plate), there are 2 square looking rubber glogs that snap into the spoiler, 2 screws that hold them and the plate onto the spoiler, and 4 screws for the plate to attach to the plate holder. All very inexpensive to replace.

Think about going without; the liklihood of being cited is quite small. However, having said that, I would stay away from the Queens Midtown Tunnel as the cops there seem to have a think about pulling over Porsches and Ferraris that don't have their front plates.

Those front bumper attachment pegs are very difficult to find. Most dealers do not have them. They have to order it from Germany. The European cars don't use the same attachment, so even Porsche Germany doesn't have it. It's been 3 years now, and I still can't find a replacement. I have to keep the hole from rusting (or is it keep the plastic from corroding?), so I have the plugs.
Anyway, that's my story. Haven't had a chance to test it yet. Fingers crossed.

Happened to me twice--the parts are about 12.00 including the large plate holder--every Porsche dealer in your area has them in stock--you can also call a place like Brandywine (they'll ship it same day for very little). You may have to improvise and use larger screws because usually the openings for the anchor pieces in your bumper got enlarged from the impact. (Ask me how I know...)

Get swivel blts for drywall they will work fine, put them in the blind hole the back side flips laterally as you tighten it, goes back verticle when loosen.
Mine came off the first week I had the car, dealer fixed it. You will be pulled over and cited in NYS. I was twice during the week I didn't have a front plate, not a good idea in NY.
Things must be good for the students at CU, I had an escort. I just got a 911 last yr, 7yrs into practice!

The mounting blocks don't cost much but be sure you ask for the right one(s). There are "left" blocks and "right" blocks. (Different part numbers.) Wouldn't it be nice if all states dropped the front plate requirement.

I was in traffic court last week and there were auite a few people there for lacking front plates etc... If your state requires it, best to leave it on and not give the cops a reason.
