Was it JRP who you were dealing with?

Yeah, probably. Most feel that they're totally useless. By the way, which wheels are you running on your car? Your Sig says light alloy turbo twists but I'm not sure that they're actually that light. I've been using turbo twists for my winter setup and I can really feel the weight.

yeah, JRP is a bit disorganized but they're great for japanese and parts for the "lesser" cars , especially if you go on their wholesale show days where they discount the wholesale prices.

as for the rims, they'er the ones that look like imitation turbo rims, i heard that there are two kinds, normal ones and hollow spoke (lightweight ones). i'm not sure which i have since i bought the car used. in any case the style has worn off on me and i wanna change them down the road.

I don't believe that any turbo twists that fit the narrow body cars were ever hollow spoke. In fact, I don't even think that the 996TT has hollow spokes. I believe that these were only part of the 993TT and 993-based GT2. If you get some nice light wheels, you'll be amazed at the difference.

Yeah, I weighed the rear winter wheels without tires and in 18x10, they weighed in at a pathetic 30 pounds+.

that's quite unimpressive. hell, all aftermarket rims are lighter than that.

Yeah, most are lighter. My summer wheels, the factory Carrera lightweights in 18x10 weigh in at 21.5 pounds.

Alon -

You are up against a real hard place here. The 996 is NOT an easy car to get equipment in in any way, shape, or form. In fact, it is the hardest P-car I have ever fabricated for BY FAR. It is also not a car that has very good internal architecture for such equipment, both in terms of space, bolt point location, and the quality of said bolt points. The modernity of the electronic control devices also poses signifcant problems.

I have installed racing seats, harnesses, and fabricated a bolt-in roll bar for 996s, and it was a TREMENDOUS challenge. I think you are going to have to decide that if you are going to keep this a street car, then that is what it will be, and that if you want to make it more track worthy, you will have to do away with some of your items like full back seat access, Bose doodads, etc. I also suggest you search this forum and also the DE/Racing forum archives for detailed info that likely exists.

I have delt with these issues at all levels, from pure street to dual use to track to full race configuration. Dual use cars are always a compromise. 996s particularly so.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I'm ready to help if you need it.

Thanks. The Solaroli brothers are ok but I'd rather deal with proven, bolt-in goodies. I think that like many others, I'm trying to acieve the impossible, a daily driven street car with comforts and convenience while making it track-worthy. By no means am I planning to turn this car into a track-only car and I am not unrealistic with my expectations of what I achieve here, it's that I want more support in the stock sport seats and the right belts can help that. At the same time, I don't want to put myself at risk by choosing a potentially dangerous setup. Ideally, a harness bar with four point or six point, 2" wide belts would be what I'm trying to get.
