The estimate for the spoiler was 10 HRS to sand and prep it, 2 HRS to wet sand and buff it, 4 HRS to refinish it, and 6 HRS of install time (the directions call for it to be fitted, then taken off, then prep'ed and sanded, then painted, then refit.

Someone pls deconflict this. Eric?

Maybe Eric (bumperplugs) should chime in on this one again, but 16 of prep and paint time and 6 hours of install time? And they were able to look at you with a straight face when they told you this?

If I am not mistaken, the TSB for the factory wing (Aero I) paint is billed out at a total of 7 hours and the install is billed out at just more than 2 hours. My suggestion would be get a quote from Eric and then get a quote from the dealer for the install on a painted wing.

The install took 2hrs for the boys at RPM racing for mine. The install is straight forward, that's a rip, no spoiler needs that amount of finishing. Just sold mine, it's basically ready to bolt on.

It took me 2hrs to take off the old wing and install the new wing for fittment. Very simple, and described in a funcarsonline thread. I am still waiting for paint and am trusting my local shop without an estimate for time and material costs. They have always been fair to me but I will let you know how much when done. (They are going to work it in.) The new harness cost 50$ from the dealer. Will

Yeah, the hours quoted might be 'thinking' time. Thinking about where to spend your money once it's in their pocket.

Way over on the time number.

Are these wings from MISHA that cheaply priced? It sounds like they are crappy quality and require substantial prep time to bring up to snuff for paint.

They are not bad quality at all. They are very good, but with these materials you don't often see the flaws (pinholes mostly) until you begin layering the coatings.

Many shops will shoot it with primer and color then clear. They think they're done.

We use multi-step processes that require more cure time, and in between we're able to catch most of the problem. It takes longer, uses more material and labor, but the end result is absolute perfection. And it does not cost a bundle. We know one shop charging $1000 for the same wing, we do it for under $400, and the results are spectacular.

The Misha products are well made, but do require more prep. That's all.

Eric,

If I had known from the start, I would have given you the business without hesitation. Unfortunately, I promised my cousin I would let her use the 911 to get married in, and that is next weekend, so I am stuck trying to get this done soon. I just went back to the body shop and asked them to reconsider those estimates and get back with me. We'll see. Thanks all for your input....Eric

Let her get married in a wingless 911 for crying out loud! Or just raise the auto spoiler with the switch by the fuse panel to keep it up. Paintwork is not something I would overspend on nor take it to anybody that it trying to price gouge me. I think this is something you may come to regret if you choose to get it done based on circumstances rather than rational planning.
