The one wireless FM transmitter which worked better than the iTrip (for me) was the DLO TransPod--unfortunately it is rather bulky and expensive. Mine broke after a few months (I got a full refund).

I can't wait for someone (Dension, etc.) to come out with a direct-MOST (fiber) compatible iPOD interface cable/kit...
I was hoping that someone would announce it at CES last month but that did not happen -- I've signed up for the waiting list for the Dension IceLink for MOST-enabled Porsches and it looks like they just started shipping a Mercedes compatible MOST/Fiber iPod adapter so maybe we will get something soon..
I refuse to use FM transmitter or cassette adapters after having the glory of a direct iPod connection in my wife's Audi and in my last (1999) 996.

I signed up for Dension's waiting list when I bought my '04 C4S Cab last May. I call them every 3 months, or so, and I keep getting bulls**t answers. I had a direct iPod input in my '03 SL 500, so I know how you feel, but I think it's not going to happen. Does anyone know if the 997 has a MOST system, and if it has MP3 aux-in connections? Our only hope is that Porsche was stupid enough not to fix this problem in the 997, and there is consequently enough demand for after market solutions like Dension...

Itrip is cool but I could not get a good signal. You have to explore other options.. But if you want to buy one I will sell it to you. I am going to replace the head unit with an alpine and get the ipod module .. I had the phatnoise in my audi.. It was great. Using the ipod while driving is challanging to say the least. intergrated is the only safe way..

LVDell,
Not sure it would be safer necessarily but I know from experience that using the ipod and itrip is difficult since you pretty much have to look directly at the ipod screen to see it. With the alpine the information from the ipod is displayed on the head unit's display. I typically feel pretty comfortable using the radio control while driving.

Lee,
I hadn't heard that about the aftermarket install. A friend of mine who does installs doesn't seem to think there'd be any problem. I'll ask him about MOST and let you know.
