Default Roll Bar on Cab-Pop ups...

Ok, now i want to track my car. Problem is, i have a cab. I want to take it out and run it on the track, but they all say i need a roll bar. I have the pop up units, that are hidden unless explore how my car handles upside down. Now, one of the sites says my car would be ok if i can lock them in the UP position. Any help on this?

We just had a discussion today about this problem and here is what we found out:
To check the "broomstick" rule with 996 cabs...DO NOT pop the roll hoop..instead place a block of wood or foam about 5.5 inches in height at the back window area. Place broomstick on top of the block and top of windshield. The helmeted head should be below this "line". All tops should be run in the UP position for they are part of the factory supplied roll over protection..and they keep hands in and debris out..
If you pass the broomstick test you are in, if not, you will need to find a rool bar. Good Luck

i dont think the popup bars will fullfill the broomstick test with a helmet on

you can always get the tequipment bar, MUCH easier to install on a cabriolet.

Can that roll bar system be installed without adding additional holes or drilling?

And the last question for the night, does the top operate if the system is installed? Just curious...

yes, this is specifically designed for the 996 coupes and cabs, and made BY porsche.

the top works fine, a hardtop should fit no problem also.

Thanks for the info, Tom. DAS also makes one that I was thinking about getting, see:

http://www.cdoc.com/detail.asp?id=7066&name=#

It's about $50 cheaper, BUT 1) you have to drill holes into the floor, and 2) you don't have that Tequipment/OEM label and confidence. So I think the one you posted is a better choice.

Where are you planning to track your car. I have had the same problem trying to find a place to take my cab out for a track day.

group buy???? I have been thinking about getting the tequipment bar as I have the gt3 seats in a coupe which make the rear useless now!!! Also that Das requires you to drill into the bottom of the car

Which ever bar you get , make sure it doesn't restrict seat travel, if you are tall, can be a problem..
