Default Valentine one new feature

I just upgraded my valentine for the POP protection, and surprize, they installed a complimentary new feature:

"When the signal identification system determines that a current warning is NOT, in fact, a radar threat, it notifies you with a "dee-dah-doo" sound and terminates the warning. At the same time the letter J will flash briefly"

Will come in handy for city driving.

You purchased a new unit or sent yours in for an upgrade?

It was the $65 upgrade for POP, the false alarm eliminator was a bonus.

Could you expand on "POP"? I'm not recognizing it. Thanks AS

Default Does the V1 sill come in the same ugly box?

The "J" doesn't appear all that often, and usual falses on my route to work are still there.

Agreed. I have one that I got about a month ago (yes it still looks exactly the same).

One strange thing happened with this new V1 compared to one I have that's about a year old. There was a radar setup with a sign that flashed your speed in my neighborhood for a week or two. The new V1 picked it up a good 1/2 mile away, but the old one didn't register anything but a brief blip about 20 feet away. I put both detectors in the same car and tested it several times. Otherwise both detectors seem to pick up the same false alarms around town and pick up police radar from plenty far away. I called Valentine and they had no explanation.

You can go to the Valentine Uprade Site to see if your detector is enabled. Mine needed it and it was only 8 months old.

POP is a k-mart quality police detector that turns on and off so fast that your detector doesn't pick it up. It is so fast that it is not even accurate. Some say it will not hold up in court. The reason I upgraded is because if I know the cop is using it, I can innocently ask to see the reading and then present that info to the judge. Hopefully, that will never happen, but for only $65 I thought the information could be useful.

I felt a little naked without my detector for a week, but it was a quick turn-around.

It is thinner than it was 5 years ago, it is about 1" thick now. Same esthetics, I doubt it will ever change, it is a military-like detectector designed and marketed by the electrical engineer owner (retired from escort in their hey-day). Besides, the oversized arrows are what makes this detector more useful than the others.

It would be cool if they offered a stealth version that could be mounted underneith the car....

yup. I'd add color coded lights for the three bands of radar too. You can't always discern the different tones.

the better idea of a stealth detector would be to separate the sensors from the unit and mount them in the front and rear windows. The problem is that there is a magnesium? casing that supposedly helps reduce interference, but i am sure it could be done. The main drawback that valentine loves to say, which is true- the higher the unit the farther the detection, hence the problem with bumper units because of hills etc.

The casing reduces interference, but any metal housing would do that. Faraday's Law. You'd have to digitize the signal and transmit it to the head unit. I think there's a unit that does that. They are fairly spendy.

I have both too. I just LOVE them. The old one, which I bought in 2000, saved me $330 today. I was next to a Honda at a light and got the double Ka beep. He took off and I stayed at 30, passed the "photo radar in use" sign and watched him get flashed. I figure the valentine has saved me literally thousands in fines and insurance.
