So here's the deal. I have both contracts in hand. If you make any modification to the car, your warranty is void. A sport muffler will void the warranty. An airbox or spring kit will void the warranty. If you use it to autocross, or even rallye, your warranty is void.

I don't know if I'll be able to resist modifying the car for 6 years or so. I'm starting to think maybe I'll just accept the limitations of the manufacturer's warranty and see how the car does. Further cogitation is required (and there's no hurry for me, the car has 2k miles on it and is 4 months old.)

Thank for all the input. I purchased a protection plan from my local Porsche dealer ( Bob at Valley Motors). JM&A Group is the company that Valley Motors recommend, they have a good relationship with JM&A Group and use Them most often. I got the sliver plan which covers the entire powertrain including all seals and gaskets as well as steering ,brakes, a/c, front suspension and electrical components. 3 years 36K miles for $ 2500.00. As in anything in life, try to negotiate the best deal for yourself. Old Bob started out at $3300.00 but my charming personality got Him to go lower.

I also spoke with the local pcar dealer. Here's what I was told about purchasing an extended warranty on a used pcar:

Coverage same as new factory warranty (ie. everything top to bottom covered)

100k Miles / 3yrs. - $3700
90K Miles / 2yrs. - $3200
50K Miles / 4yrs. - $3500

Add a $300 surcharge if the car starts extended warranty with 30k+ miles.

Whaddaya guys think of that?

sounds good on the surface. you need to see the t's and c's. What if you add a sport muffler, or aftermarket springs? is your warranty void? will they cover damage due to overheating as a result of a failed component? Will they cover seals alone? My advice is to read the contract. And especially, let us know what you find out!

My experience from past cars ( non pcars ) is if you have the dealership install the aftermarket goodies this doesn't void any warranty.
