Valentine 1 Rearview Mirror Display?
I saw this picture while surfing the 'net. I couldn't find any info about it on the Valentine 1 website. Can anyone provide some info? Is this a V1 product or an aftermarket one-off?
Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia and The District (with all the lawyers in this area I am surprised no one has challenged this yet) but I would consider getting this for those long road trips to the beach. Thanks in advance.

its aftermarket - but not a one off. they're around. its slick, but i don't see what it really achieves. my thinking is that i don't want my V1 display up there - out in the open for everyone beside/behind me to see. i have mine down in the gauge cluster - no one can see it but me.
oh - and with the display down in the dash i can check my speed AND the threat at nearly the same time.....

There was a BMW guy who would do this for something like $250 if you sent him your mirror. I was thinking of it then a C2 coupe guy bought one from another company. It is hard to see the display in the day time. I passed because my top on my Boxster is down all the time.

Mr. Pants;
I have one of the mirrors from (I imagine the same ) BMW guy. (Still have it I think... in a box somewhere)
Impossible to see in a coupe in the day.
The response from the 'mfgr' was 'you are old', everyone else can see it just fine.
... will you sue them for me... please

I'll take him to the cleaners.
Doug is the C2 guy I mentioned.
But Doug, I thought you bought 2 from different companies. If so, is one better than the other.

The only way I would consider this kind of mirror would be if the V1 was built into the mirror, not only the display. I mount my V1 at the same level as the rear view mirror, as recomended by V1 web site. What would impress me would be someone who would come up with the ability to hide the V1 in the mirror. Anybody ever consider this??

This is a nice feature, but what would be nice is to have the actual unit built into the rear view mirror. This way I would not have to unplug the unit every time I park the car in a parking lot, with the fear someone braking my window.

That was not the place I bought from (unless they changed the name, etc. ) but I don't see the mirrors at that site?
In any event, the generic difference is that the AI unit etches the mirror backing off so the display is seen through clear glass.
The 'other' unit (that my old eyes cannot see), they replace the regular mirror glass with a sort of 2-way mirror and the display shines through whatever the mirror coating is so it seems something like 30 - 40 percent as bright. That coupled with the fact that the words are all gone in this type of unit makes, it, in my mind, almost worthless.
The AI is a bit 'spendy', but it is a complete new factory unit, very well modified, very visible and has the remote controls also built in.
I would also like to add that the company that sold me (umnitza I think is the name) the one that I could not see was very helpful and say that I could return it for a full refund... I just never got around to it... so they are not bad guys or anything as far as I am concerned.
wanna buy it? It works really, really good :P
