Default Drill holes for louder exhaust note?

Can I strategically drill holes in my 996 exhaust to increase engine noise? If so, anyone done this and can tell me exactly where? If not, which quality aftermarket exhaust system is the loudest? Thanks.

I dont know about drilling holes in your exhaust, I can't imagine that to be good.... Just spend the extra buck and replace the stock system.

I have the Fabspeed maxflo exhaust system. I think it is definitely one of the loudest exhausts for 996s. Most people on the board have gone with Fabspeed, PSE, or GHL. Do a search, there has been tons of threads on this before.

The ONLY place you want exhaust gases escaping is out the back pipes.

Thanks. Had a fabspeed on my 993 when I bought it and I enjoyed the sound. Thought I might get away with a homemade solution; guess not. I'll look into it.

Dude,

get the fabspeed bypass pipes - It does not get any louder than that.

Standing at a light and reving it up to only 4k rpm will have everybody looking at you, and all rice burners want to race you.

I am running the SuperSprint system with B&B Headers. We have the catpipes too for the REALLY loud noise. Want more info on the different ones and sounds PM me.

How do you think the supersprints would sound without the headers? I'm thinking of upgrading from stock but, I don't like resonance or loud mufflers. Thanks Mark

I have a B&B sport muffler on stock exhaust headers on my '99 996. Mine is a daily driver and occassionally duty calls and the cell phone rings. At freeway speeds, the exhaust note intrudes a little on the cell conversation but not on conversation within the car and that's just fine. In SoCal stop-n-go, the note is just fine for all conversation.

The headers really dont change the note to much. The exhaust internals break down over time giving the car a better sound. The tone from when I first got it to now is MUCH improved. I had the B&B on for a day, it was ok. I like the look of the SuperSprint better. Neither one of these exhaust has resonation in the cabin. Depends on the person too.

Let me know and I will hook you up!

its not the exhaust internals breaking, its the carbon buildup.

Drilling holes in the muffler is just a bad idea. I seen it done before to get some extra sound, but it will cause exhaust to be blown in the wrong places and may cause some cabin carbon monoxide or staining of your rear bumper. Also you can't predict how is it gonna sound.
As far as the sound changing as an exhaust gets older is either two fold. If it gets louder its the internal packing breaking down and the exhaust is muffling less. If its getting quiter there is some cabon build up in the exhaust system and that is muffling it some more. I'm no expert, but it makes logical sense to me.

Installed my muffler bypass pipes today and it's insanely loud...and I love it!

My '99 C2 had B&B headers & mufflers. The sound was good, but not loud enough. If I did it again, I'd skip the headers as they don't make any real difference sound or performance-wise as far as I could tell and I'd go with Fabspeeds.
