Default Axle Tramp?

I have experienced something a couple of times in my 996 - once during a launch in the dry, once in the wet. Both times, it felt like there was a lot of unproductive power going thru the rear wheels - the take offs were fast, but not too hard. During a checkup at the dealer I mentioned it, and he said it sounded like axle tramp, but found no abnormalities.

I have an 03 996 C2 6 speed with PSM, 18" wheels, Michelin PS2 and sports suspension (M030).

Any suggestions/diagnoses? Is this normal? It has happened twice (both recently) in 6,000 miles.

Thanks

Wheel hop! That sounds like it. Tires are fine - 6,000 miles and plenty of tread.

It felt like the back was jumping up & down a bit, and the rate of acceleration did not match the amount of throttle....

As I said, the car was checked and the dealer found no anomalies.

Yea that is 100% wheel hop, it happens in my 04 c2 alot, it when the car is hooking and spinning at the same time, causing the car to hop, this is not a good thing for any car, it is a normal thing, just not great for the car, i avoid it by more throttle of the line or less. No worries alot of cars do this..

I test drove several dealer demonstrators before buying and they all had serious wheel hop on hard acceleration with traction off. It was most noticeable on wet roads.

As soon as we have ANY traction on the roads up here I'll let you know.
