Default Porsche Microwave

This year my wife and I will attend Christmas dinner at her family’s home about 200 miles from where we live. We have been asked to bring my wife’s very special Christmas Spinach Egg Nog Soufflé. The one problem with this soufflé is that it is best served very warm and as you may know soufflés cannot be reheated.

I was thinking about having my local Porsche Dealer install the Porsche Microwave on the rear shelf. Their price (not surprising) is somewhat steep, however. Including the Microwave its $1400.00. I can buy the Microwave (part number 996-321-987-01 at Sunset for $873.21 with my PCA discount and install it myself.

Has anyone installed the microwave and if so do you have any install suggestions. Do you know if there are any after market units that would work?

Since we will be arriving shortly before dinner time Christmas afternoon my wife plans on preparing the soufflé about 45 minutes before we arrive and then cooking it in the car’s microwave for the required 12 minutes. I was planning on tipping the sliding roof to vent the cooking odors instead of using the included vent piping. I don’t want to cut a hole in the rear wall to vent thru the engine compartment.

Happy Holidays to All…

Jim

Jim,
I had a similar predicament last Thanksgiving, and unfortunately all the buttons on the console were taken (I had the Porsche Seat Massagers installed which took 2 switch slots on the console, also got them at Sunset -- great deal!). FYI you need to install a switch for the Porsche Microwave (#996-321-987-01).
So I opted for a DIY option, which worked great and was really cheap! (Less than $100 bucks!!!!)
Here's the details: I got a Wagan 12-Volt DC to 120-Volt AC power inverter from the JC Whitney catalog (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...p-7537/c-10101), and a Black Kenmore 0.8 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave from Sears.com (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=02063109000), it matches my interior quite nicely and comes with countertop hardware that you can use to install on the backseat (just make sure to remove the seat cushion first!). This combo works and looks great!

Depending on the microwave you go for, you may need to place a larger fuse for this.

Cheers.

Borrow a Boxster. Our rear trunks get so hot you can cook in there. Some of us have had plastic things melt in the rear trunk.

This has spiked my curiosity. I had not heard of a microwave being available. The part number doesn't seem to come up for me. Any information/pics available on this product?
