1999 996 C2 Engine Protective Plate
Any thoughts on installing an engine protective plate on a 1999 996 C2? It seems to me that such a plate would be a good idea for the 996 C2 with the hoses, nuts, couplings and what have you that protrude below the flat bottom. These things can get snagged or hit from road debris or low parking stops no matter how cautiously one drives the car.
Does Porsche have such a plate?
Thx...

carnewal sells them, not positive it fits a '99, but check Gert's site.
Edit: It does fit the '99; see here: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p96021.htm

Porsche sells the plate. I had one installed the last time the car was at the dealer.
$220 in total. including part and install.
Not sure I need it, just nice to know its there. I have not snagged or hit anything yet. My car is not lowered, but that will change come summer.

I installed it myself on my old 99 C2. Its not difficult to do if you can get under the car enough. I ordered mine through Suncoast Porsche in Sarasota.

Go here for pics of mine as well as the mods I did to it.

I made the drain hold bigger to keep oil from getting up behind the plate. I also made the cutout by the filter because when I was installing the plate it looked like the filter housing may catch on the protection plate a little. That would mean turning the housing sideways and possibly spilling oil. Plus I couldn't get my big'ol hand up in and around the filter housing with the plate the way it was.
The plate cost varies but is REAL easy to install with a 10mm wrench.

Thanks Nick for the foto's. I bought the plate over at Sunset the other day. Got it for $94.and change. I didn't think it would take more than 10 minutes to install so I'll tackle that next week when I have more time.
Tell me, the three 10mm bolts that are there...is anything going to pop out or come undone when I take them off? Is there are torque setting I should return them to?
Thx...
Jim

I feel so used....... Living in the city and not having my own garage :-(
Does anyone with the plate ever hear a rattle/vibration in first gear/reverse with the clutch partially engaged.

Just secure them as you would anything else. Not too tight but tight enough that you know it won't come off.
