Default Slow in fast out!

Just wondering from you guys/gals who track your vehicles wether or not the back end heavy engine 60/40% ratio forces you to take slower then usually turns coming into a turn. Any other way , from what I have heard, would force control to be completely lost.

Also what is the proper driving position . Are your arms fully extended to the wheel and are your legs fully extended to the pedals.

Just wanted your opinion and experience.

Cheers and safe driving.

There are different driving positions but many sit very close to the wheel. The slack in your arms allows you to make turns easier without taking your hands off the wheel. Fully extended arms limits the amout of rotating movement.

A car's weight distribution is constantly changing as you accelrate and brake and turn. Each car requires a different technic for handling high speed cornering. There is more to stability in cornering than just weight distribution. Look at the new viper which is almost equal in weight front and back. I challange any Viper driver to follow my C2 through some high speed cornering.

Slow in fast out along with straight line braking is the traditional, safe technique for driving a 911 around the track. The 996 is much more stable through turns than the older 911s, in other words lss tail happy...to an extent, like any 911 the car can oversteer if you suddenly lift. Attend the Porsche Driving Experience and learn how to trail brake your 996 thru the turns, this is a very fast way around the track in a 996, fast in fast out so to speak. However, this is an advanced technique and should not be attempted by novice drivers.

Driving position: elbow should retain a slight bend when gripping the top of the steering wheel with the shoulders not lifting from the seat. Hands at 9 and 3. Back making full contact with the seat. Knee should retain a slight bend when fully depressing the clutch.

The 996's 40/60 weight distribution allows us to brake (slightly) during the beginning of a turn, because while braking some of the weight will be transferred forward, making the car's weight ratio 50/50 during braking. You should be careful not to overbrake because that will transfer more weight forward, making the rear end light, possibly brake traction, and oversteer. After the apex, you can get on the power earlier than other cars if you have a C4, C4S, or Turbo, because of the AWD. While the rear wheels are pushing the car, the front wheels are also pulling the car, allowing you to get on 100% power without breaking traction, because all that power is divided unto 4 wheels instead of just 2.

Basically, 911's kick *** around the track
