Default Spark Plugs

I am about to change out the spark plugs on my year old 996 coupe. I went to the Autozone website and punched in my make/model/year and it gave me numerous options. Which one does anybody recommend???

http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=C001&UserAction=performSearch&Parameters=Auto+Store|~RE GULAR+PARTS+LOOK+UP|~SPARK+PLUG

Cost is not an issue as long as it is worth it. If it matters - very spirited driving in the mtns 5-6x a year, otherwise just aggressive city driving

thanks for any input!

I would go with the OEM plugs, just not worth pulling them out if its not running right.

Are you doing the 30K service? Reason I ask is that plugs are not reccomended until then. Never hurts though to put in fresh ones at any time

Only have 12K miles and car is just over a yr old - changing the plugs mostly as preventative maintenance........and cause I'm bored and like tinkering with the car

Pull the plugs and if they are dirty, replace. At your mileage, if they are soiled, your engine isn't running at the right AF ratio.

I wouldn't bother with the plugs. If you are bored, replace the differential fluid or tranny fluid.

well I replaced mine at about 30k and I noticed a nice improvement in idle quality and smoothness. They were pretty used looking on the ceramic. No pits but an older grey color not brownish

I only mention this becasue I just hit 50k and am going to replace them again-. Also check your boots and coils when doing so- Be careful about the connector locks as they're easy to break also.

Go with Bosch plugs. I have worked on many cars in my life and whenever I use a non Bosch plug on a German car they always started to go bad after 10K miles. OE is Bosch. BTW the same happen when I used a Champion plug on a friends Toyota Celica, we ended up putting back Nippon Denso after 12K miles. The moral use a OE plug.

Frank:

Are you nuts? Plugs on your car are good for 60K miles. If you are bored, I can think of plenty of things that you and your fiancee can do there in Atlanta.....

Both Bosch and Beru are used as OEM plugs. You need to get the recommended snap-on wrench and extention. There is just enough room for this combo to work. They are not the easest plugs I have ever changed. Mine had 30k on them. With a coil on each plug I doubt you will have any need to change them more often then 30K miles. Any notice in performance is your imagination unless you have some engine problem causing fouling.
