Default Clean Exhaust tips

This has probably been discussed before (am please forgive me if it has) but does anyone know what can be used to clean and polish the OEM exhaust tips? My 99 C2 was not as pampered in its former life as I would have liked and the tips are discolored from heat and lack of attention.

Any suggestions on how I might get them looking good again?

Try some "000" or "0000" steel wool and some metal polish and they will look good.

Bar Keeper's Friend: Cheap. Cheap. Cheap. Apply with soft moist rag. Old T shirt will be fine.
Any kind of metal polish in a paste form. Meguir's makes one I think.
Easy with the steel wool, don't use the stuff we clean barbeque grills with. Get the one Eagle makes, available at your local Walmart.
The Best I've used is made by MAAS. I got it at the grocery store. Tube paste. http://www.alwaysbrilliant.com/?PID=...20Polish%20all

I use P21S Multi-Surface Finish Restorer Polish:

Use part of an old tshirt, rub well and buff off, then repeat. After the first time, it's a lot easier.

To keep the gunk and yellowing down to a minimum, I use RejeX:

It works great on exhaust tips, wheels and windshields, for keeping stuff from sticking.

The stainless steel tips can be cleaned w/ a a 3M pad but they are not supposed to be shiny - just a dull smooth finish - that is the look of a properly used hot exhaust tip - anything other than that is girlie man stuff

Thanks much for all your comments. Amongst all of these suggestions, I should be able to find a suitable product to get them clean....and keep them clean.

I tried all sorts of stuff, including a significant amount of elbow grease.....nothing worked, until I tried some powdered "copper cleaner" stuff for kitchen pots and pans.....even Comit didn't work, but this copper cleaning stuff worked immediately and did a nice job of cleaning up the tips. Now I have my own supply, courtesy of my bride.....

I sent my tips (2003 Targa) out for a machine polish. They look almost like chrome now. I keep them up with MAAS metal polish. They always look great.

I took my tips off and buffed them up on my bench grinder/polisher. It took about a hour to buff the stainless up to look like chrome. I use a medium buffing rouge (red) and finish up with a metal polish like Autosol or Mothers. To keep the tips from turning brown, I coat them with Rejex.

0000 superfine steel wool and windex. any liquid acts as a lubricant and prevenets scratching if the wool is fine enough
