Default Wheel Mounting Alignment

I installed Rennegade Motorsports Big Brake Kit on my 996 Targa. Loved the looks and braking was enhanced. But I noticed that my steering wheel would shake at 60+ mph. I thought that was odd as it was fine prior to the install. I checked the wheels to make sure they weren’t bent, lots of road construction lately with pot holes. They were fine. I had the car tires balance three times at two different shops. The last technician told me that the balance was fine but that there probably wasn’t enough lip on the mounting “brackets/tabs” ,only 5 mm, because of the way the Big Brake rotor adapter mounted. (See photos). Also there was a bevel edge on the wheel bore that was 4 mm deep.
I fabricated an adapter that extended the “tabs” that was held in place with the rotor adapters from aircraft grade aluminum 72 mm dia. tube pipe. Everything’s has a 72 mm dia.- the wheel bore dia., the tab dia., the inner dia. of the adapter. I put aluminum tape on the “legs” of my adapters to snug it tight into the rotor adapter. I slide the wheel onto the extended mounting lugs, and push the wheel firmly onto my adapters. Installed the wheel lug bolts and torqued them to spec. Mounted fine without problems.
Test drive was Great, smooth and steady without a shake or shimmy up to just below 100 mph.
Hope this helps someone with a similar problem, I was able to fabricate them with a cutting angle grinder and file for fitting. Bought the “tube pipe” on E-bay.

Very nice fix! Virtually all wheels are hub-centric now so your tire person was exactly right to point that out. Some aftermarket wheels for Subarus (I used to have an STi) use plastic rings for that purpose, which always made me shake my head.

I didn't run into this issue when I was running the Renegade kit.
