I was lucky enough to be in Italy last week and drove (in the passenger seat) a Ferrari Enzo, named after the founder. Only 400 cars made. My Italian friend (driving) got us up to 175 mph on the test track. What a car!
My understanding is that they originally planned to build 399 (Ferrari's theory being you should build 1 less than you think you can sell), but then there were many long time repeat customers who weren't going to be able to get one, so they increased production by 50, to 449.

I've heard that too, but the numbers were 349 to 399. Depending on where you look and what you read, some still have it quoted as 349 produced and some say 399.
The Ferrrari folks themselves told me the number is 402, up from 399. The productrion is not yet complete, meaning that they haven't yet built 402, but they currently intend to build only 402 Enzos. Also, interesting note: you MUST be a prior Ferrari owner to purchase the Enzo. So, sorry Kirby-- I know you had your checkbook out. (Not sure, but I think the "msrp" is about $600k).
My 911 looks like a go-cart compared to this beast!
