March 2019 I bought my Natural Brown one from Rose Passion in France for just under $200 with shipping to the US. At the time there were zero in the US and even RP had about a two month wait to get it from their supplier.
I paid $154.00 from Sunset in January of '21.

Holy crap. I paid $211 in 2021. I can't believe how these things have gone up. Personally I adore the 996 interior with the console delete but for that money I'd rethink it. Or come up with my own solution.

It's price gouging plain and simple.

My guess is that the buyer at Suncoast knew a good deal when they saw it and bought up a lot (all?) of the dead stock and cornered the market. When you are the only one selling it, you can set the price to whatever you think people will pay. Maybe they'll go on sale one day, but even then, $800 or $600 still sucks to pay for something that was less than $300 from the dealership.

I paid about $350 shipped from Rose Passion in 2022. Absurd that a little piece of plastic and carpet can be sold for over a grand.
These used to be all over ebay for like $50 in 2018-2019 because almost every Boxster came with it from the factory, thus the 986 part #.

I dunno if you've ordered already but I do occasionally make OEM GT3 replicas for $450. Sadly it's not possible to offer it at the original OEM price as there is not enough sales volume to justify opening tooling. Bespoke work costs.

On the plus side, since everything I do is bespoke, I can make you a leather one with color-matched leather and coordinated double seams for $500 lol.

Nothing to do with Suncoast. It’s Porsche AG in Germany, but you are correct about the price gouging, because that’s exactly what it is.
I suggested to my local OPC that Porsche’s parts stock analytics/algorithms are seeing sales of parts for cars production of which ended nearly 20 years ago.
When they see “abnormal” demand for such parts, they notify the stock controllers/costing departments, who increase the prices as they see fit, and this frequently results in overnight price increase.
My OPC confirmed that is indeed what happens, and they’ve been caught out between ordering parts, receiving them, and invoicing them to customers…

I purchased my delete kit back in early ‘22, it cost me £350, now they’re £1000 …

Not just 996 parts either. I needed a wheel hub for my 955 Cayenne: they were $55 each or so when I checked. A week later when I tried to order it they were $275 each. I did not buy it, sourced an aftermarket Touareg part for $30.

Gert from Carnewal explained why the prices went up and it’s not entirely Porsche’s fault. The kits were made by a small shop for Porsche and they raised the prices.

FYI there's a 3D print file on thingiverse that's free. I found a guy on Facebook Marketplace to print it for ~$100. I'll post pics once I leather wrap it out upholster it with carpet

Mk2 996 6 pot front calipers used to be £600 a PAIR, now they’re closer to £1200 EACH.
Brembo isn’t a “small shop …”

Porsche are price gouging just like the majority of big, greedy corporates are.

I completely understand but I was only speaking about the console delete. The 996 GT3 master cylinder went up triple from one day to the next.

I know I have an obvious conflict of interest here, but there's a reason why those are cheap. The real GT3 console delete has some really nice subtleties like double radiuses, recesses and alignment tabs that aren't implemented in the free file. The most obvious difference is that the filler piece in front of the shifter is supposed to be a curved trapezoid - not a flat rectangle. I spent quite a few hours looking at and replicating these features and it's not trivial to get it to look OEM.

If it doesn't bother you (the piece is mostly out of sight, this is true) then by all means, free file + DIY carpet and you're good to go. Just know that this approach isn't without compromises.

wow. I did this mod in like 2007 because I hated that stupid, intrusive 'cd holder' bull**** that was 5x larger than it needed to be and kept banging my calf into it!

I had no idea these had increased in price so much, guess i'm getting old!
