Question I need a lesson on Spring Pads (how? when? why?)

How, when, and why should I use these options? (see pic)

These options exist for a reason. I could guess, but I'm hoping someone here has definitive answers. I'm currently in the throws of battle trying to even out my H&R + B8 spring suspension.

Thanks!

You measure the current ride height and compare it to spec or height you're aiming for.
The difference between the two is the difference of thickness between the pads fitted (so you have to measure them) and the ones to replace them with.
Does that answer your question or am I just stating the obvious?

Well, it seems obvious, but it also seems like very few people know of this system. There is very little chatter about it.

Do the spacers in the rear stack?

One thickness is for standard suspension and the other is for Sport Suspension.

From the 996 Essential Companion:

In my case I went from standard suspension (white dot on shocks) to Sport (green dot on shock). The Sport suspension also uses a different bump stop but I don't remember if it's the front or back.

Thanks!

So, I'm mistaken in thinking that the "compensator discs" are for fine-tuning ride height.

I'll have a look at my old springs that I removed from my 2003 C4S and report what colors I'm seeing.

Not necessarily. The matching springs and spacers in the companion are the standard configurations to get the chassis to the spec height. Likely for all brand new components.

I'm with @hardtailer about measuring your ride height and then changing these spacers to get the chassis of the car to the spec height. To be fair, the chassis height specs are pretty wide and pretty easy to fit within.
