Default Passenger Air Bag Cover Rattle

I’ve isolated the fact that it is the cover. Hold it down or push it to the side and the rattle stops. I’ve also tried spraying silicone into the space, which seems to help temporarily but the rattler returns.

I’ve read a few posts that seems to provide different information on the fix. Some say to go underneath the dash (i don’t have a glovebox) and attempt to fix from there. Others have said to pull out the side vent and go in from the side.

Can anyone provide a more specific recommendation on how I might go about attempting to fix this and if there is actually something here to fix (i.e. lose bolts)

thanks!

OP - Safety plug: Always disco the battery and wait several minutes. As a general rule, I wait 15 minutes for charge bleed-off time before I work on any bag deployment system. Pelican has pictures in their DIY 996 section. First thing I’d check are the two Torx bolts (connected to the airbag unit) at 3 and 9 o’clock. May be loose.

It would help to know WHICH airbag cover you are referring to. Drivers side steering wheel airbag or passenger side airbag? As said, always disconnect the battery when working near or on an airbag.

Good point since OP mentions he has a .1 with no glove compartment.

Are these accessed from the side panel behind the vent or underneath?

One thing that I’ve noticed is that I can physically move the airbag cover slightly left, and right, creating the same noise with my hands
