Default Learning more about our engine

I consider myself pretty average when it comes to working on engines, technically. But I really want to better learn the ins and outs of my engine ('99 C2), partly since its tough to get a good view of it the way one normally would if it was mounted at the front of the car. Specifically, so that when the time comes to do some work, I'm not starting from square one.

Any good resources for educating myself?

Find Man In A Garage video on YouTube. He tears down his 3.4 engine and puts it back together. Pretty entertaining as well.

Second, he does have good stuff BUT make sure to verify and cross ref when doing actual work. He has a major omission in his cam timing video that still hasn’t been corrected. (Doesn’t rotate the crank 360 between banks (!!!)

Bentley manual has a good overview section.

996 Essential Companion is out there somewhere as a digital preview, the whole book.

Quite frankly, wait for the next sale at LN and buy Jake's video series on rebuilding the engine. In the meantime, there are plenty of videos to watch from LN/FSI and others on YouTube that can give you a broad understanding of things in prep for Jake's video. The more you search on yourtube, the more you find on your YouTube feed.

I’m a fan of FCP Euro’s videos. They have a 996 playlist for a bunch of basic and mid-level maintenance items. The videos are thorough, methodical, and well shot.
