Default Help me figure this out

Hey
996 4s. My car is doing some odd things.
-door lights (not overhead) won’t go out
-door lock button on dash doesn’t do anything when pressed
- car horn toots when remote key pressed
-drivers door window is permanently down slightly. Doesn’t go up and down a touch when door handle activated.
- Goes up and down normally when window button is pressed (but not all the way).

Given the above, is it the door handle sensor that causing the issue?

Compare the driver's door handle to the passenger one... is it drooping slightly? If you push it up a little and the window goes up (door shut) then you likely need a new door handle spring. This happened on mine. In the interim, I used a square of poster putty to keep the handle in place. It looks stupid but functional while you wait for the part and time to do the repair.

sounds like door handle microswitch. Pull the door panel off and start wiggling.

Or maybe even try the window reset procedure? Worth a shot and its quick/easy/free.

We are in Australia so I’m keen to ensure it’s the micro switch before the panel comes off - 2/3week wait for shipping.

Given the multiple symptoms, are you confident that’s the culprit? I was hoping that someone that’s in the know would be confident with their recommendation.

Thanks

It will take some
troubleshooting on your end and this is where the PIWIS or Durametric would come in to play perfectly! They will give the specific code to what’s wrong just by plugging in. Do you know of any friends/shops near you that have it?

In the grand scheme of Porsche ownership, it's pretty inexpensive with immediate benefits when something goes wrong.

Default Didn’t work :/

$500 bucks later and it still doesn’t work. Replaced door handle micro switch for both the inside and outside handle.
The window still remains permanently down by a quarter of an inch. Door open or closed.
When I first connected the battery it was all the way up. Soon as I cycled it, it stayed slightly down (as if the door is open). I’ve done this twice and same thing. Goes all the way up until it’s cycled.
Ive tried resetting the window.
Ive also noticed the door lights have melted because they are permanently on. This tells me the car thinks the doors are still open.

I'm very confident its not related to regulator adjustment.

I strongly believe the car thinks the door is always open. Any thoughts?

I really need to get this fixed as water is coming in when I drive in the rain.
Sadly, I don’t have access to the computer dongle as suggested.

thanks

U have to read the immobilizer. Most scanners do not read it. The durametric might read it but a pwis2 deff reads it.

It will tell u what its not responding and it may be the wiring not the switches or regulators. I have an issue with a microswitch somewhwere too as mine will not allow the doors to lock. Its a lot of wiring to go through without knowing where to look.

I’m in Melbourne, Australia 👍🏼

Electrical gremlins are so frustrating.

Can’t work out how the car knows if the door is open or closed. I’m confident that’s the issue.

btw - new micro switches are Porsche OEM. Not after market .

I'm in Melbourne too. You need a tester to see if the car thinks the doors are open or closed. The best tool for the enthusiast is the Durametric.
The door lock actuator tells the car if they are open or closed. If it thinks either door is open it won't lock.
There aren't any aftermarket door Microswitches they are a genuine only part.

Sounds like there are a few issues here, window being permanently down could be the window regulator if you've already replaced the microswitch. There is also an inner door handle Microswitch too. Neither of these will stop the car from locking though or cause the alarm to beep.
Is your 4S a cab or coupe?

Thanks.

4s coupe.

Window goes up and down normally when I reconnect the battery.

Once I’ve cycled it once it will only go up to the ajar position (1/4 inch from top). I’ve replace both handle micro switches. I’ve tried resetting the windows.

My issue is that the car thinks the door is open permanently and I don’t know how it determines that.

I answered that for you already

Most likely you'll need new door lock actuators but unfortunately without a tester you won't know which one to replace. I can refurbish them for you if you'd like. Otherwise new ones are around $650AUD each
