Default 911 with close to 100K?

So I found a 2004 40th anniversary 911 with 90K miles for $39K. 3-owner vehicle, Carfax is clean and service records from 2009-present. Service by reputable porsche independent shop.

The IMS had been done by LN Engineering-certified shop, RMS, Clutch, Plugs, Catalytic Converter, Fuel Pump and PPI came back good. Some minor things here and there like scratched front lip, one horn inoperable but nothing major. Engine, Suspension all in great shape. No leaks, etc. Paint meter readings are good.

Would buying this be a smart idea? (If anyone has some extra tips or advice that would be greatly appreciated!)

Just be sure the PPI includes a manometer reading and a bore scope inspection from the sump.

Leo,

It may make sense to go back to your original thread (Dealership & PPI) and develop a checklist from all the recomendations.

What do the service records say? See what was done to the car over its life and when, and what still needs to be done.

The less service that has been done to the car over its life, the more you will have to pay for maintenance to bring it up to spec. Not to mention the more headaches you may have near term as those parts fail and you have to replace them. Parts, procedures and dates are important.

In the PPI, did they scope the bores? What tests were performed, what does it say?

It may be an awesome car that's in awesome shape. Tell us more about it.

The longer I'm around 996's the more convinced I am that buying a 40AE -- any 40AE -- is not a mistake. If it hasn't been in a major wreck at any rate! The price paid today will look like a bargain a few years from now.

Yep. It's a GTS before they came up with the name.
