Default Instrument Cluster Center LCD Display

My 2003 996 center display has an intermittent problem so I thought it would be straight forward to buy a replacement part on eBay, but I’m being told the unit I have in mine is rare. Using the usual car identification brings up a part that does not fit in my car so I’m guessing a previous owner has switched something out. I’ve attached a couple of pictures, can anyone offer any advice on this.
if anyone knows where I can buy a replacement or why my car has what seems like a none standard part in it that

would be really appreciated.

I had a heck of a time finding a replacement middle screen for my 2003 Carrera with 6 speed xmission. Most of what is being offered are for auto xmission models up to 2002 MY. I ended up shipping my entire cluster to Best Pixel Repair (bestpixelrepair.com). Going forward make sure any screen you purchase is for a manual car with the mile per hour display on the smaller left side screen. Nothing else will work.

I decided to check my clusters. The LCD screens are all the same out of the 2004 C4S tiptronic (not pictured), 2004 C4S manual and 2002 C2…

Many thanks, I’ll look for one, don’t suppose you or anyone else reading this knows where I can buy one?

Like evoroadster said, Best Pixel Repair.

Replacement Middle LCD display w/ cable for Porsche 911 996 Instrument Cluster. | eBay

My bad, you're looking for a 2003. I'd just call Best Pixel Repair and ask them.

EDIT: Found this, unsure if it is the correct part but site says it fits up to 2005.

New GLASS LCD (CENTER) for PORSCHE 996 986 INSTRUMENT ODO CLUSTER LCD – German Audio Tech

Nevermind, it's the part for early cars despite description.

Part appears to be NLA. Would bet that the repair services source it out of used clusters. Trying to find a used 2002-04 cluster cheap might be your only option, or sending it out for repair.

Not that I am saying you are wrong, but why does it matter what car the screen goes into? Doesn't the screen just display whatever information it is told to? I would imagine the signal is sent to the screen and the appropriate pixels light up. Just asking.

This site has the answer you are looking for.

https://www.sacer-shop.com/sa1235-lc...cable-398.html

Scroll down and a pic shows the screen is not suitable for those clusters with the MPH displayed on the left small screen. This is also what Best Pixel Repair told me via telecon.

Hi W208 CLK Year 2000 RHD I've replaced the broken ribbons cables for the temperature gauge and clock (the left and right displays) on the the instrument panel but inadvertently broke the glass LCD on the center multi-function display. It looks as though this LCD plugs into the circuit board so I think this is replaceable? I can't find a replacement online so I was thinking of getting one from a breakers yard does anyone know if this would work? as I think I read somewhere that to just plug in a used instrument cluster it would need re-coding to be compatible.

Default LCD follow up

Thanks for all the feed back.
If I ever do find a middle lcd display is it a plug and play or so I have to get the mileage reprogramed?

I tried to address this issue about a year and a half ago. I even had a panel shipped to me for 75.00. Come to find out it was like yours and is welded to the board. In addition, it seems that there are many iterations of the cluster and not all are the same. Instead, I intend on sending my Turbo and Carrera clusters to Module Master. The Turbo has the issue where the oil level sensor reading fails. The Carrera has sun burn from living in Florida.

I've had good experiences with Module Masters. Recommended.
