Hey everyone,
I'm looking for some kind of book or article on the 996's geeky details (technical solutions, options by year, development anectodes, etc.)
I got issue 167 of Total 911, which turned out to be a little underwhelming. Do you have any recommendations that don't cost hundreds?
Regards,
Alex

Two of the best. The 996 Essential Companion costs $120-220 depending on who is selling it. It is the best for details on the 996. 101 projects is $35 or so.

My vote for the best book for 996 lovers i she Ultimate History of Porsche by Stuart Gallagher and Helen Smith. It is out of print, but it's a history of Porsche that was written in 2002 so it celebrates the 996. It has a 996 on the cover. You can get it on eBay for $20-$30. I have given away two to my friends who drive 996s and they really like it.

I just joined, looking for a 996. Here is what I'm seeing. There are Cars & Bids ans we'll as BAT auctions in the last few days that have well maintained, higher milage selling in the high teens!
These cars have has IMS upgrades, but the bore score data is a bit more obscure. I think any 100k+ milage car is at risk for this being a major service. Low mileage cars may bring much better money, but they also may be at risk. There's a sweet spot to try and get.
I happen to be looking for a tip car- but I'm surprised to see they are priced about the same when looking at these higher milage cars. I put 500K on my chevy truck and 250k on my GMC dually. Ultimately the right owner with good maintenance is more important to me than mileage.
At this point, they are at the bottom of the market. Differed maintenance is the only real risk. Responsible annual maintenance is my goal!

You may be right, but they seem more attainable now than ever!

That graph applies only to 996.2 coupe automatics and is based only on 28 sales starting from the height of the post pandemic increase until now, so not representative of the 996 market as a whole.Originally Posted by PxTx
