Default Looking for diagram for main battery cable(not Y)

Anybody have or know where to find a diagram of how the + battery cable is routed through a 996 (Cab would be a bonus)

Thx!

It runs from the battery to the stud in the distribution block that protrudes into the battery area in the frunk. The other side of that stud has a thick black cable that runs along the firewall down the center tunnel then through a grommet (the same one with the shifter cables). Once under the car it runs through trans tunnel to a small distribution block under the car in the passenger fender area. A new cable runs out from that block to the engine (if I remember correctly, little fuzzy on where that cable terminated).

Thanks much, I have kinda had it with their undersized + cable..
But since I just got the car back on the road a couple months back I didn't want to just start dismantling it again... LOL
My new motor you can tell has the system kinda near the limit due to compression... Especially on hot starts.

Pulling the engine/trans as soon as it cool down, will be doing same thing to the 04 and going 1/0 awg from frunk to the rear, already replace the Y cable with 1/0 cable from these guys.

@JohnCA58
can you share how you spec’d that cable? And did you use the same type of cable and ends for both portions of the Y-cable?

Been a few years, I went with 2 2 ft. 1-0 awg with 5/16 hole cable ends, ran the charge wire from the alternator directly to the jump box, and the starter wire from starter to the jumps box.
I kept both wires same size, I also change the ground cable from the cyl #6 head to frame with 1 foot 1-0 awg with 5/16 hole cable ends. I did cover the two positive cable with split loom to protect the wiring. reuse the plastic jump box with a new bolt, the old bolt was to short with the additional wire being added to jump box. important to not forget the ground cable.

the charge wire (alternator)doesn't necessarily need to be same as the starter wire and can be smaller

I''m going big(2/0), using a high strand cable and hydro crimp and sealed ends..
Capacity will go up about 100 amps over stock.
The charge cable is going to be 1 wire from the alt to the engine bay junction.
Again high strand, #1 with hydro crimped and sealed ends.
I am also going to parallel a new "-" cable the same size as the new "+" from front to rear.

There will be no more slow cranking events.. ever..

LOL you shouldn't have any issue with 2/0 agw, what I use to crank over 15 liter engine with 18:1 compression.

I love all the "overbuilding" of the high amp circuit......Porsche always uses the minimum to save weight but that doesn't lead to long term durability...

That and the truly lame starter, the motor is the same size and layout os my 69 911 with a 2.0 in it..
I have a motor half the size on my 5.3 V8 with 11.5:1 and it cranks like its running.. And its like 90 bucks..

I always used 6V battery cables in the 12V bugs, they were cheap and 2x the diameter..
I also used a 6V starter, they spin like crazy on 12V... LOL
