Install of a Single Din Carplay/Android auto head unit
I purchased unit to see how it fit and worked in the 996. You'll want the get the
wiring harness adapter.
The kit comes with an external mic, USB 1 (carplay and android auto), USB 2 (data), GPS antenna, a steering wheel remote control, and sending unit, radio removal keys, and two mounting brackets. It has connections for front and rear cameras,
Install was as straightforward as it gets.
Once it's connected to Carplay, the menus, and operation are pretty responsive. Audio quality is decent with the stock amp and speakers. There is an EQ to customize the sound.
I am considering placing it in the lower hole where the CD or cassette holder usually sits. It fits better in that space and I could add another storage cubby above it.
The unit I purchased only has two channel output via RCA plugs. It looks like there is a four channel version which will work. I will post an update when I know for sure.

- Remove stock radio
- Connect the Metra wiring harness between the chassis harness and the new head unit.
- The head unit harness only has Left and Right out.
- Power up the head unit and wait for the lengthy Android boot process to finish
- Connect to the unit via Bluetooth. pair code 0000. You can customize the name and code if you want.
- Click the apps screen and click the T-link5 app, which launches the Carplay/Android auto function and will connect via Bluetooth or USB. You can relocate the app to the first page of apps for easier access in the future.
- The app takes quite a while to connect the phone to the display.

That's a really interesting proposition. The idea of a Single DIN Carplay head unit is great, considering most single dins have a flip out screen which sort of defeats the purpose.
If it would work with some kind of MOST adapter I would consider going that route. That is price is stupid cheap.

Latest update. The unit I purchased only has two channel output via RCA plugs. It looks like there is a four channel version which will work. I’m working with the distributor to see if they will exchange it.

Sorry I eventually went with the stick head unit as I wasn’t happy with the fit. I gave the unit to a friend and he installed it in the CD storage area. It fits well and he is happy with how it functions.

Tom, if you really want a single DIN Carplay unit, go with a Power Acoustik CP-71. It seems to be a better Single DIN fit for these cars. I'm sure the sound quality is pretty on par with other units at this price level.

You'll need a Metra wire harness. The unit is pretty much standard analog I/O like most aftermarket radios.
