Wiper arm removal tricks
Need an assist in replacing driver side (U.S.) wiper arm. Have taken off the nut, but the arm is on there good and I can't get my Schwaben wiper arm removal tool in there because the hood won't lift all the way out of the way. Do I need to take off hood struts and open hood or have you got some easier hacks? Wiper arm is 22 years old and original. For those of you looking to shave some wind resistance off your rig, but want to keep the wipers on, the new ones are completely smooth with no rivet hold the springs in place. For me, it's pure vanity.

Try any of the low-profile tools, the ones that look a bit like junior ball joint separators. I just did this when I refinished the fading plastic cowl trim.

Ah, I know exactly what you are talking about, having just bought a ball joint tool for the Mercedes strut replace I just did.

Was just wrestling with mine couple days ago... I used the below, never knew there was an actual tool.

I have bought several of the special wiper removal tools., some work better than others but some cases where they can do damage, or just won't fit, I resort back to my hand technique..
Grab the wiper at the hinge and use leverage 3-4 inches from the shaft, pull up then push down ( with equal force) 2-3 times and it will pop off. ( force as necessary) ...I have never had one I couldn't remove with this technique, but I'm sure there is one out there somewhere...

When I took the wiper arms off my Cayenne I used this gear puller tool:

Removing wiper arms is the first step to change the front upper control arms.

I use a battery terminal puller. I agree that the hood is a PITA on the 996 D/S. Luckily mine wriggled off using a technique similar to @Porschetech3 .

Thanks everyone. I will let you know which technique I used when I get the car back from a all wheel alignment today.

Porschetech3 is the winner. I used a shot of penetrating oil and more manual effort applied and it popped right off. No tools needed.

As someone who doesn’t enjoy brute force as the way, for most car things, I try other options. And using a universal puller, I was able to pull the wipers off the car. I’ve used this on other cars, though it took a little creative positioning for the driver side arm to get around the hood strut.
[Edit] This was on my 992. But since I found this thread when searching for removing wiper arms on a 911, I suppose this could be helpful to you all as well
