Default FCP Euro's Definitive Guide to 996 Transmissions

Excellent article on the 996 transmissions from FCP Euro blog. I felt like there is quite a bit of useful information in this blog article (especially for new or prospective 996 owners) and though I would share.

Enjoy.

I just dropped and replaced my C4 gearbox due to the 2nd Gear pop-out issue that pretty much is like the frigging plague for the 996.1 gearbox. I spent about a year driving around shifting from 1st to 3rd until I could find the time to fix it, because 2nd gear simply would not stay in. Shifting from 1st to 3rd for that year really taxed the hell out my clutch... so i ended up putting in a another new one and new flywheel (damn, that $hurt$).

Got a pretty good deal on the rebuilt C4 gearbox from Joe Cogbill at CogsCogs. Joe has been racing Porsche and rebuilding gearboxes for over 40 years and I really trust the guys work. He's also got a pretty good collection of 996s in his yard that he parts out at fairly reasonable prices.
