Default Clutch Not Fully Returning

I know this has been covered before and I’ve read through the threads but I feel my issue may need some additional diagnosis from the collective. So if a question being asked more than once annoys you please be kind. 😁

The following items have been replaced with the engine rebuild:

new flywheel
new clutch plate
new sleeve
new throw out bearing
new lever (upgraded with the newer longer pivot point)

Reused the original pressure plate and slave cylinder.

didn't really need any new parts, the clutch had very little wear…

while the engine was out we moved states and had the pleasure of getting the car on a transport. Had a steep driveway and I instinctively pushed the clutch in with the slave cylinder just hanging there. Didn’t shoot the rod out but did cause a slight leak.

fast forward a year.. I reset the retainer on the slave cylinder and reinstalled. Bled the daylights out of it but the pedal still won’t return fully. Pulled it back out, no sign of leaking. Put it back in, it engages the lever and I had to push the cylinder in about an inch to align the bolt holes. Still won’t return the pedal fully.

can the slave cylinder leak internally? I don’t really have a way to check and see if it’s disengaging the clutch yet…

I’ve read something about a spring on the pedal but I didn’t have an issue before pulling everything apart.

thoughts??

Sounds like still needs bleeding, if the slave was leaking, it would leak externally into the bell housing. the Master cylinder could leak internally. what method are you using for bleeding.?

Did u check to see if the helper spring on the pedal assembly broke and is causing an issue with the action?

I pulled the slave out, removed the boot and there was no leaking.

I used a vacuum bleeder. Also did it the old fashioned way a few times.

I shimmied under the dash as best I could, didn’t see anything obvious, but also not familiar with what I should be seeing.

Many threads on it but not sure your symptoms lead down this road?

Here is an example

Thanks for this! That’s a mod I will be trying out after I get it functioning correctly. I did see the spring when I was under the dash but didn’t touch it to see if it was broken. I’ll give it another look.

You should bleed with a pressure bleeder. Also you want to make very sure that the slave cylinder rod engages the shift fork properly.

I’m using an air powered vacuum bleeder, what would make the pressure bleeder better?

just went back out and got some video of the spring, looks ok. (I’ll try to upload but not sure if I can do that) When I pump it up quickly it will overcome the spring and return to the stop. Maybe I do still have some air in the system.
