Are you just making stuff up? How do you know this stuff? Amazing. I have a GT3 carpet I was going to install and thought it would fit but I didn't know there were differences.

So that would mean the wider-body models like the turbo and 4S still share the same floor pan with all of the other models? If the GT carpets still fit, what makes them different? Thanks so far.

I believe the only difference is the GT carpets do not have the cutouts for the rear seats, their attachments, seatbelts, etc.

The 997 carpets fit too, with a little trimming in places that you cannot see.

The GT carpets have less foam insulation stuck to the bottom for weight reduction.

Apparently there are some differences (cabs & targas with or without Bose)

When u have disassebled a few of these cars to bare chassis some things become clear. Plus i read other forums like the 6-gt and turbo. I see what others do. Also this generation was made with costs in mind. They share a ton of parts accross platforms.

The wb cars have wider hips but thats external of the interior cabin.

The gt carpets are thinner, lighter, r louder nvh in an efdort to save weight. Also the seat and setbelt cutouts r not there.

One note. The rear seat back carpet piece from a c2 will NOT fit in a tt or gt car. There is a firewall bump for the engine oil tank and it causes the c2 carpet to bulge. I suspect that if u wanted to flap disk and shap the foam u could get it to work. The gt3 carpet will fit in the c2 car and will not see the gap in the foam because of the stiffness of the carpet.

Firewall bump i installed on my c2 for the mezger motor.

Sounds like Jeeper knows what he is talking about to me...

So, I don't need thinner or wheight savings but I would like to find a simple install without mods. I'll probably look for a C4S or TT carpet.

If anyone sees one, please let me know. Thanks.

Default 997 rear carpet into a 996

De Jeeper, could I fit 997.1 GT3 rear carpet into a 996.1?
