Short and sweet. Another testament to the flat, aerodynamic, modern headlight of the 911 that would define a generation. The 996 might go down as one of the most well known Porsche models of all time (in some capacity). I've really grown to love our headlights through all the 996 renditions.

I find the headlights to look more modern, and pleasingly aerodynamic. They don't detract from my enjoyment, especially from the driver's seat.

Time will tell
but I get the hate especially when the 996 first appeared
Previous 911 had similar looks and the 996 was going to take the 911 to the next performance level
people don’t like change

I remember when we bought our '99 in '02, thinking the 996 was stunning....from 3 angles, but that the lights just weren't there. We didn't care about the Boxster connection, but thought that the departure from the single round lamp was un-911. At the time, I also thought the 993 looked dated even when new; rain gutters in the 90's, really? Fast forward ~21 years and we still have the 996, plus a 986S and a 993 and I enjoy the view walking up to each of them. Tastes change, or at least objections moderate.

I remember pining for a 911 in the early 90's and a motorcycle shop owner advised me to buy
a car with a Tip - for rush hour traffic, well it would be a second car and I thought it was heresy
life stuff happened and I found myself off of work for a few years
while I was healing I stopped in a Porsche Dealer and saw the 996, this was around spring of 2001
beautiful, sleek, modern almost elegant
- - but the best part was water cooled and the instant horsepower jump
at night I'd read and reread the booklet ( still have hit ) that outlined all the improvements
my now ex said she'd never allow it, just to impractical
well, she's 16 years gone and I'm in my 8th year ownership, which was twice as long as our marriage
maybe the second best part of the car, a thing of absolute beauty

I liked the look 20+ years ago when I bought mine and like it even more now. Never had an issue with any of the 996 light designs. The car was a completely new design in parts, looks and performance that blew away the previous models in all measurements. The 996 has a classic look that works in any era.
That's why 175k 996s were sold vs 68k 993s, and 62k 964s. I would say it was a huge success.

Notice they showed the clear headlights of the '99/'00-01 C4 and not the "fried eggs" of the early C2's... Personally, I love both but I believe it's the "fried eggs" that get most of the heat...or is it hate?
