Default Headlight High Beam

Headlight High Beam: Afternoon - my first 911 - water-pumper - 2002 996.2. The headlights will not stay on high beam. The flash works with everything lighting up. The left side is in need of a running light bulb. I already cleaned the sockets, and the connectors appear to be good. What is your experience? switch? relay? Thanks in advance. It has the Halogen headlights.

I hope I'm not being "that guy" - you said it's your first 911 - you pull the stalk to flash, push it forward to leave the high beams on.

Thanks but I did figure that out, I push forward nothing happens. The HB's do not even light up. I pull back and they flash as I believe they are supposed to. I am thinking it has a relay somewhere that may be out - that I do not know where.

My guess is the switch, not because I've actually seen this fail, but because the lights work when you use the flash function. This indicates the power circuit to the lights is OK. Sorry, not much help.

This is my knee-jerk internetz diagnosis as well.

EDIT: get ready for your first "Porsche tax" shockwave when you look up the replacement part!

Ya, I know about the pricing . Had 2 air cooled 911's and still have Turbo Cayenne. Thanks for the help.

Agreed on the switch - but here's another thought (from a Canadian - my lights are on 24/7 whether I use the switch or not). Do the HB work when the fog lights are on? With the headlight switch itself being a failure-prone component, is there any possibility a fault in that is preventing the HB from staying on, while allowing a flash (which would presumably work with or without fogs on).

After completely going through everything, I said screw it and bought a new switch - all is well now. For some reason I was not ready the Bently wiring diagram right while testing the switch, I guess...
But it was the nasty little $100 (Amazon URO Brand). I bought it from Amazon just in case I needed to send it back . Alot easier sending something back then with our normal suppliers. Thanks everybody.
