UAOS "upgraded" crossover breather hose
I have been buying new breather hoses and modifying them for UAOS, or cutting out the Norma Quick connectors to use in UAOS manufacturing. I use 5 different Norma Quick Connectors for all the different models of UAOS now available...
I have contacted Norma to buy just the Quick Connectors but they would only sell them in quantities of 1000 each at a cost of about $30k ...lol ....I have finally been able to talk them into a reasonable quantity of each different Quick Connector , so I decided to make upgraded cross-over breather pipe for 996.1 since they cost about $200 now, witch is outrageous for a plastic hose...
I use a spiral steel hose that is a lap-locked ribbon of steel and very flexible steel pipe. It has a polyvinyl air tight cover then a polyolefin cover for abrasion resistance. Even after heat forming the hose it is still very flexible.... It should last an incredible length of time and the connectors are replaceable ( if need be) ...
Here is a picture of the cross-over breather pipe that fits 996.1 and 986.1 cars.....
Spiral steel lap-locked flexible hose
Polyvinyl air tight cover and polyolefin abrasion resistant cover
replaceable Norma Quick Connectors on hose before heat forming and after heat forming
heat formed 996.1/986.1 cross-over breather hose
I think this is a nice upgrade from the OEM plastic hoses that are thin and get brittle over time and cause fuel trim issues with vacuum leaks...Function over OEM?? That is the question...
If you guys agree I will be making them to fit 996.1 and 997.1 and also 986.2 and 987.1 ...
UAOS kit for 996.2 , with the addition of the upgraded breather hose it would be a complete upgraded new crankcase breather system

Having has that hose snap on my during re-assembly this is a nice upgrade for sure! I ended up buying a new OEM one which was significantly more flexible but I'm sure it will go brittle again over time.

If you made these to fit the 955 Turbo you'd probably sell at least 3 sets!

‘Min! No wait… how much $$$ does it cost? Just kidding…🤣
** can it be installed with engine in place? Engine need to be lowered? Etc…

My hope was that Skip had figured out a way to make it installable with the engine and intakes in place… Asking too much? Probably, but worth a shot…

Snaking it through the intake might not be too hard if your hands are small enough ( ) but the PITA will be getting the connecting plug onto the AOS securely. I don't see how you can do that with at least the driver side intake in place.

I didn't mean to exclude the 996.2 but the 996.2 does have a bit of complication to it in the parts catalogue...It has a engine # split for no apparent good reason..
I have all the materials to make what ever hose needs to be made...just a matter of if making them will be a good idea.....lol .... I just need a pattern to get the form and length correct..
Send me the patterns and I'll make them for you,...... and some more for others.........
The 997.1 3.6 ( same engine as 996.2 later engines) has a breather hose that goes around the back of the intake, it doesn't go "through" the intake and would not require the intake to be removed.... I may decide to use that design for ALL the 3.6 engines.....
I would like to make it as simple as possible....There are only 2 variations of engine connections... ALL the AOS connections are the same but the bank 2 head connection has 2 different variatons...a 1 bolt connection and a 2 bolt connection...the 2 bolt connection started in 2003 at engine # 663 09950 ...But there are several different routines /designs of the hoses...
This metal pipe is still very flexible even with all the covers heat formed, can be bent very far and return to shape without fear of cracking/breaking...
Yes, installing with ease is a goal that I am considering, but it may stray a bit from OEM design/routing...lol
Washer fluid to stop bore-scoring?? HMMM ...lol

Oh, I know what a bitch the stock hose is…when I had my engine out years ago I forgot to reconnect it before putting on the entire intake system - that’s when I found it hiding over on the side of my workbench…I tried to snake it through the intake plenums several different ways to no avail before disassembling the intake to install it.

BTW :: Anybody that has UAOS in CA, I have many reports that UAOS passes even the "visual test " in CA...
The UAOS system has been in use long enough now in CA that many people have been through the two year SMOG test..
I already knew that UAOS produces less emissions by being more efficient at keeping oil out of the engine, and is Legal in CA according to the language in Appendix G , but there has always been speculation that the CNC Black Anodized Aluminum Accumulator would draw unnecessary questions from uneducated Inspectors. But all the reports have been that no questions were asked about the system from SMOG Stations..

I smogged the 02 last month here in Sacramento CA, it is the latest version UAOS and passed no problem and no questions asked. I have the first version of the UAOS that I havent installed in the 04 C2, I think that one will pass even easier by looking more OEM, I'll be dropping that engine this winter for the IMS Solution,UAOS, injectors and clutch.
