Oil level sensor
Looking at buying a 03 911 with 92xxx miles on it. He's done the plugs, hoses, fuel pump, etc. but said the oil level sensor does not work. He checks it manually. Is this a common problem with the 996? Is it an "easy" fix?
I don't know that it's common but most people trust the dip stick anyway. I use both. Keep in mind that that sensor also provides oil temperature, for which we don't even have a gauge in the cluster. Replacing is not hard but a PITA since you probably will need to remove one of the intake manifolds to gain decent access.
It is not common at all. I would actually verify that the oil level sensor does not work. The oil level is displayed only when you turn on the ignition key to ON (not start). It takes a few seconds for the display to show the oil level.
Mine doesn't work either . I took a chance on reusing an unknown used one when I had my engine rebuilt . The dash display goes through the motions but when countdown clock gets to zero there is no reading . I will fix it sometime but for now I use the trusty dipstick .
As already stated I think you have to disassemble partially the intake crossover tubing to gain access . Then remove and replace .
