Default Next Modification Question:

Amigos,
I am thinking of changing my exhaust - I was researching the Fabspeed Exhaust Vs The PSE system, the fabspeed system provides HP gains of 30+ and the PSM provides Jack (NYC - term for nothing)

Both are the same investment amount (2K)

Is there anything about the PSE, other than it's a OEM part that out weights the fabspeed exhaust ?

It seems to me, you get more bang for the buck with the Fabspeed, not to mention more power (which is always a good thing) - can anyone expand on this ? Thank in advance..

P.S. 8700 miles and I am still smiling..

Hola,

I had the Fabspeed on my 1996 C2 993 Coupe a couple of years ago, and presently have the PSE on my 2002 C2 996 Cab.

It seemed like I did acheive HP gains of +10 to 15 HP with the Fabspeed, and it's mirror like finish was very sharp. However, I had found that, at times, it's loudness was a bit much for my taste.

Conversely, I love the sound of the PSE... and with the 320 HP in the 996, I'm more than pleased with the power. My $ .02 would suggest the PSE.

Keep in mind I don't track my car.

How about GHL? Under $1000 (see the top sticky subject). Sounds great too.

From my experiences there aren't any real dyno proven gains throughout the powerband with any of the available exhaust system upgrades. You may pick up a bit of high end power but drivable gains are really pretty negliable. It seems to be the concensus amongst the forum that the PSE has the best sound out of what's out there. The Fabspeed may provide a slight gain (30 hp for any exhaust on any car is more than unlikely) but as mentioned here, can be a bit loud and abrasive for some tastes. The GHL is a good budget minded alternative and seems to get some decent reviews. I personally like the PSE, but it is really just a matter of preferance.

Supposed and unproven power gains aside, go for the sound that you like...

Fabspeed= throaty & deep sounding (American V8 style almost)
PSE= raspy sounding (more traditional sound)

I had the Fabspeeds on my 99 C2. Loved the sound there... especialy compared to the sewing machine sound of the stock exhaust. I went with them b/c they were a lot cheaper than the PSE at that time and also b/c they are lighter than the PSE. Either way, you can not go wrong.

I'd take any claims about HP gains from a simple replacement of the exhaust with a grain of salt. It is just too incredible. When i was i the market a while back, the Fabspeed HP gains were from a combination of the exhaust, cold intake, and ECU mapping, not from a simple muffler swap. Even those claims are minimal at best, doubtful otherwise. Some posters even claimed a loss of mid-range torque from the "butt" dyno.

I'd simply forget about any HP gains, and concentrate on sound, cost, and personal preference.

Maybe 5-10 hp (max) with an exhaust upgrade, all in the high RPM range. As above, it's all about the sound.

I've had Fabspeeds on my 90C2Cab; my 94 Speedster; my 993S; and my 02 Cab. I love the sound and did not consider any hp gains. greater hp usually means higher top speed. It's the torque your after for 0-60; 1/4 mile, etc. speeds

I'd go with Fabspeeds 'cause I think they weigh about 40 lbs less than stock and that's about 6 percent.

Both the Fabspeed and the PSE have an equal likelyhood of very slight HP increase (or so I'm told). I love the PSE - especially the on/off switch that lets me keep the car quiet when I'm driving down my street at 5:30am...

Go OEM...

Default My $0.02 on the Fabspeed setup...

I started stock and went to the Fabspeed Maxflo muffies. Great improvement in sound. Very throaty. The sound has really matured over time. I later added the cold air intake and this made an improvement in induction music and high rpm howl. Throttle response was subjectively better.

Prior to the cold air intake mod, there was a slight flat spot on low end throttle input. Nothing real big, but it was there. After the cold air mod, the flat spot was gone.

Now, having said all that, I just ordered PSE. The PSE sound has Porsche written all over it. It has more rasp to it. More bite with a tad bit of nasty thrown in.

Don't get me wrong about the Fabs... they've held up well under track abuse and sound great. I just like the PSE flavor better... especially at the track.
