Default 996 GT3 two piece stripped bolt, safe?

EDIT: I went to the mechanic for a helicoil insert, they were out of M7, they should get them in and problem should be solved. Thanks for all the help!

Hi all,

Just got a set of 996 gt3 rims, one of the small titanium bolts on the outer rim is broken. I did a one over to make sure all is in order but sadly this is the case. How safe/unsafe is it to drive with one of the bolts stripped.

Thansk!

I'd be asking myself how in the world that happened. Then I'd be checking every other bolt on all 4 wheels.

Is the bolt threads stripped or is the bolt broken?

It shouldnt take much to helicoil the hole.

In the mean time i doubt 1 bad bolt would hurt anything for normal street driving.

^^^ This ^^^… Or, the proper/professional way to do it would be to disassemble the wheel, weld the hole, drill and re-tap for the correct fastener.

That's not what you told me when I pointed out I had two broken ones at the track! You said there's still a lot of bolts holding it together, go for it.

So this thread reminded me about my broken bolts.
Took about 5 minutes to get it out.
